Pretty good impression for my first time going there. Luckily, I didn’t go at peak hours so I skipped the $2.50 sitting charge! Looking forward to coming back and trying everything else they have to offer.

Interesting/neat decor, pretty good beef fajitas. What I found amusing was that they asked how important the sand box was in their restaurant feedback form… hehe.

If I could, I’d give this restaurant 3.5 stars. My food experience was alright; I ordered the pecan crusted tilapia (which was one of the specials that day) and it was good, but nothing to write home about.

The reason why I give it 4 stars, though, is for their originality. They have a lot of items that I’m willing to come back and try- for example, oyster nachos, Italian margaritas, and Greek calamari, to name a few! They offer a lot of specials each day (we’re talking 4-5 entrees), and they promise that every day is something different. Definitely a seafood restaurant with a lot of potential.

I tried their happy hour sushi and I wasn’t too impressed. Perhaps their specialty rolls are better, but you’ll have to see for yourself. What I DO like, though, is the ambiance. I felt like I was dining in the inner loop (or, dare I say it… New York) as opposed to small-town Katy! Despite my so-so reviews of their sushi, I’ll definitely go there for cocktails- I’m willing to check out their 80s night / ladies night, on Tuesday and Thursday, respectively.

Definitely a neat place, since the restaurant was a house in it’s past life. I went there for brunch, where I had their gingerbread waffle (one of their specialties.) I also had their wild berry mimosa. I must admit- I was berried out by the end of my meal, but everything was good, nonetheless. Anyone want to take me there for dinner?? =P

Nestled and hidden within the Grand Lakes...

Nestled and hidden within the Grand Lakes neighborhood, Pulcinella is a cozy restaurant that brings back fond memories of Italy (at least, for me.)

My parents and I ordered the pizza with proscuitto- amazing, perhaps because it was made in a brick oven! For dessert, I had tiramisu garnished with raspberries, mint and powdered sugar- a pleasant surprise.

What irked me (and these are really minute details, mind you) was that they didn’t serve olive oil or anything with the bread, and that “Grazie” is horribly misspelled on the receipt. Other than that, great ambiance, courteous staff- I’ll be sure to return once more.

Interested in the somewhat new addition to the First Colony Mall courtyard, I checked out the Black Walnut Cafe with a friend during lunch.

I ordered the rigatoni stuffed with spinach and artichoke. It was alright, but I wouldn’t have paid over $10 for it. My friend, on the other hand, ordered a grilled cheese sandwich, and it looked amazing.

I’ve read reviews of this place, and one person said that it can be hit or miss. That statement, I do agree with.

One thing I AM interested in that I wasn’t able to try was their gelato. It looks like they have a lot to choose from, so keep that in mind if you decide to go!

Although my first experience was sub-par, I’m willing to go back there and try something else- their menu is diverse, so I can’t just write them off as simply “okay” just yet!

I don't know of many German restaurant...

I don’t know of many German restaurant establishments in Houston, so coming here for the first time was very exciting for me!

My parents and I ate here on a Wednesday in October. Since Oktoberfest was taking place, every Wednesday they had live German music and a buffet for $13.95, plus beer that is apparently only brewed during Oktoberfest. (Keep in mind that the buffet is normally $23.95… so you can see how awesome a deal this is!)

I LOVED this place. One thing I highly recommend is the Gute Nacht Kaffe. The owner himself will make it in front of you- and it is AMAZING. I can’t describe it. It is composed of hard liquor (scotch, whiskey, and something else) but since German food is very filling, you should be able to take it just fine… haha.

I’ll definitely come back again- it’s a nice change from all the American, Italian, and Mexican cuisines in Houston!

Luckily, I came here when the weather was perfect, so I was able to enjoy their nice, shady patio. Since this is a gourmet burger place, I tried their veggie one- it was okay, but I’ve had better.

Their Mexican food, on the other hand, is pretty delish! My mom ordered the enchiladas, and we liked it so much that we ordered another!

Prices are cheap, and the ambiance is great (especially if you’re outside; the waterwall completes the experience.) I highly recommend this place if you’re looking for an eating establishment that is relaxed and local along the Strand.

I was going to go Nikko Sushi & Sake Lounge for lunch, only to find out that they’re only open for dinner on the weekends. My parents and I decided to eat at Swampy’s instead, right down the strip center… and I’m sure glad that we did.

I ordered the crawfish poboy, and it definitely hit the spot. We all ordered the lower priced dishes, but my goodness- the portions are generous. I can’t help but wonder how much they give you for the $10+ entrees.

This isn’t a place to go to every day (unless you want a heart attack, haha!) but I do recommend it- great food, fun ambiance (although the restaurant is a bit too dim for me… you get used to it, though), very friendly staff… neat place overall.
