Best affordable place to eat in my immediate neighborhood. Nothing fancy, but the food is solid and the bread is good.

Used to be on my corner when I lived in Brooklyn. Food is good and new (for me). But it is hard to beat the atmosphere here. Music is a constant along with Brooklyn hipster types and neighborhood folks.

Solid cheap middle eastern. Best when it’s not too cold out; take it to Washington Square Park. I stick with the shwarma but enjoyed the kebob recently. Only thing that could make it better would be fries (chips).

Mixed bag on the food. Some is amazing (see: hot chocolate, baked goods); others is more ordinary – and thus overpriced. Last time I went i had grilled cheese, which actually was really really good. But still, you probably want to go for the hot chocolate.

Tiny menu, tiny space, great food. I always get the shakshuka, which is served in a hot frying pan. For some reason, this is the only place I’ve found in NY with good shakshuka.

I grew up on 2nd Avenue Deli, but have to settle for Katz’s these days. In some ways, it’s better – cheaper and much easier to get a seat. Everything is good, but I always get a frankfurter. Or two.

Solid Mexican food. Nothing particulary creative but always good. Two drawbacks: loud and cash-only.

Somewhat high end Carribean food. Have only eaten here twice, once for take out. Both times the food was very good, big portions. Lots of BPs eat here.

Used to eat here all the time, but less so recently. Good food but somewhat boring menu. Always save room for the Walnut Apple Sour Cream Pie (from Little Pie Company…).

Does anyone else even sell popovers? Good food but popovers (with strawberry butter) puts them into my favorites catagories. Long lines, particularly for brunch. Kid friendly.
