Uncle Bill's Family Restaurant
Crestview, FL
Uncle Bills, Under the bridge in Crestview, Fl
Small, local, value priced. Menu or all you can eat dinner bar. Surprisingly good service, family run with family doing the serving. Lots of southern favorites, pies, and sides. Fish and menu specials run as they see fit, I haven’t been back enough to get the rotation. The menu is all fit to eat in a family (picnic) style setting.
Just about 2 miles north off I-10 if you are passing through. You are there when the road bridge arches over the railroad. (look hard left)
I will be back to this one!
Dishes Tried:
Burger
My son ordered the burger, and it was plenty of food for him. He wasn’t willing to share and made happy noises. He is fully capable of speech and at 6-3, usually starving. He is ready to go back. I think I will have to try one.
Clean – yes
service – very good
value priced
bar
southern food, hot dogs, sausage, fried chicken, vegetables and pie. Nice spread, too many choices to try it all. Everything was good and the pie was included (homemade).
Great family feed, very reasonable, run by nice people.
This is one time that I wouldn’t want 5 stars. There are times you want comfort food, family and no frills. This is it. Good food, nice place, no stress.
Ed's Restaurant
Defuniak Springs, FL
Pub Burger at Eds in DeFuniak Springs off of I-10
Hole in the wall 1950’s leftover small home town place. Well worth the stop. They are upgrading and the restrooms are 100% improved. This is all family operated so be polite. Slow your yankee down or you will not like what you get (or don’t get). They do not do a la cart or special orders well at all. just stick to the menu and be happy. VERY HAPPY it turns out. The food is tasty, hot, generous and fun.
When I moved, Suzy pointed out that Eds was now 18 miles closer. It is a happy thought!
Dishes Tried:
Pub burger
The locals know to order the Pub burger with cheese and bacon fries (small) with a medium Hawaiian shake. Come hungry or bring a friend (or 2) to finish this. My 6-3 son and I split the cheese fires and order our own burger and shake. it is an amazing feast.
I am still working on the rest of the menu, but it is hard to not want a pub burger!
Donut Hole
Destin, FL
O M G don't miss this!
In the summer the line is out the door and worth it. I have had lunch and many a happy breakfast here (served all day).
We have happily eaten our way through the menu and it is all yummy. If you can get here off season, the food is just the same but without the wait!
Parking or getting across the street can be deadly here in high tourist season and lines move but not quickly. Expect 30-45 minute wait times in summer. September through April is the best for no waiting and easy parking. I can’t believe people don’t leave Boston in the winter and come then! It’s beautiful here.
Dishes Tried:
Blini
The cream cheese blini is real fresh in season fruits, amazing pastries (hot) and just the perfect sweet. I thought this was a bit fru-fru. It looks girlish, French and unmanly. GET OVER YOURSELF. Sex for your mouth! AMAZING. My wife ordered one and I finished it. I have a hard time ordering anything else!
I have never been disappointed here. The food is seaside reasonable (add $2-4) but the quality is strictly French Rivera. A true foodie is in charge. This place is all about the taste!
La Hacienda Mexican Restaurant No 1
Milton, FL
YES! Mexican
Much nicer inside than out. The staff doesn’t have great English, but the food is pure Tex/Mex.
Clean – yes
service – good (language can be a problem if you order a la cart)
Menu – standard Mexican (with the name changed) local menu!
Salsa is fresh and tasty, chips too.
Dishes Tried:
several
This is really 4.25 stars. Not quite upscale enough for 5, but the prices are very reasonable. Generous portions, light eaters will need a to go box. I took out 5 of us and the bill was less than $60 including tea and soda.
The skirt steak and fajitas are as good as I have had anywhere and the single portion will feed 2 easily.
Coach-N-Four
Crestview, FL
Crestview, Fl Coach & Four
Clean- yes
service – slow; makes the place appear busier than it is
bread – stale & unremarkable even fresh (commercial)
food – unremarkable but ok
smell from kitchen – WONDERFUL
prices – a bit more impressive than the food.
Looks like a western Cracker Barrel. Lots of old stuff and western stuff.
There are are lots of good choices nearby at the same price. I am surprised they are still as busy as they are.
Dishes Tried:
NY Strip
Unremarkable. Ok, but could have used a good rub or been fire grilled. I am spoiled by west Texas steak houses that put out a juicy, tender steak.
Served with a large nicely done potato (points for this) and overcooked green beans (points off). It was served with about a ounce of lime sherbet on the side. It was an odd item with steak.
I am a purist – a good steak needs no A1. This desperately did.
