4.0Consistent and well priced.
Makiyaki is a pretty good restaurant especially for a place in San Leandro. The food is pretty good in general, the decor is different than most sushi places you will encounter, and the same faces will greet you each time you come back. The food isn’t going to change your life but there are some solid choices that will be what you need when you want something and don’t want to be surprised. The consistency is what has me giving it a four star.
Dishes I tried:
Highway Roll
My personal favorite at Makiyaki. Imagine if a spicy tuna roll somehow got coated in tempura batter and fell into the fryer. It may sound crude when put that way, but it is a crispy, chewy, and spicy treat sure to please any fan of spicy tuna rolls.
Chicken Teriyaki Donburi
Standard fare. But definitely feeds the need and provides some contrast to the rolls you will probably be eating.
Sashimi platter
Another middle of the road experience. Good but not going to change your life.
