Decent greasy spoon with a good dose of spoiled food

My husband and I went to eat at True Grits. I ordered the True Grits burger, which was marginally good. My husband (a chef) who ordered the chopped steak dish (it has a specific name there) discovered, less than halfway through, that the gravy had gone bad. We couldn’t get the waiter’s attention to take it back, so I offered to share my hamburger with him and said that we could tell the waiter once he came back to the table that he should credit our bill. We did so, and the manager comes out shortly thereafter to notify us that the owner said that “she had just made the gravy” and that there was no way that it could have gone bad. They refused to credit our bill (despite the fact that my husband had eaten less than half of his food) but offered to “mail us a gift certificate”- we live in Austin! Let me make it clear that my husband typically eats like a goat and only refuses food if it is REALLY bad. He also has a keen palate for food that is rotten. I was incensed by the owner’s supposed comment that implied that either 1) we were lying and just trying to get a free meal or 2) we were crazy and didn’t know what we were talking about. I am also concerned that they are in denial about food safety and that someone with a weaker immune system might end up catching something there that could end up making them seriously ill. So, that being said, if you want a decent greasy spoon with a good dose of food poisoning minus the customer service, try True Grits!
