Cabo, Oceanside, CA

The food was average but then again I expect more from Mexican restaurants that are located in California. Coming from Chicago everyone is always telling me that California has GREAT Mexican food. It’s probably my fault I expect so much but frankly this was just mediocre. We used to dine at this restaurant when it was in Leucedia, which had a beautiful view of the ocean. The new location in Oceanside also has a nice view of the water because of the second floor patio. It was a little chilly so we asked the waitress & busser to turn on the heat lamps on more than one occasion and it wasn’t until half way through eating our meal that they told us the lamps didn’t work. The salsa was good and I really wanted guacamole but was unwilling to pay the ridiculous price of $8 for a 4oz cup of it. Fajitias were overpriced at $16 for chicken. We asked to substitute sour cream for pico and we were told NO SUBSTITUTIONS. Seems odd because sourcream costs more than pico and I would think restaurants would welcome such substitution when it’s a lower priced item. The service was also very average. I had to wait for our server to finish eating, in plain view, before I could flag her down to ask for refills on our sodas. I really wanted to like this place since it obviously has potential. I would only go to meet with friends for chips, salsa and margaritas and to enjoy the sunset. Otherwise, I would pass.

Dishes I tried:

Chicken Fajitas

Okay. Chicken is chicken, right? Although I’m used to fajitas coming with cheese, even just a little bit of cheese, it only came with guac, sourcream (which I hate) and pico for the setup. It came with rice, beans and tortillas. The rice tasted odd, like dirty rice. Salsa and chips were good. We also had HOT wings for an appetizer which I asked the waitress if they were HOT and she said they were. In reality, they were as spicy as KFC’s original receipe.
