Apollo Grill is an American fusion café. The food here is fantastic, I love the grilled vegetable Panini which is served with their own make of chips which aren’t remarkable. The crème brulee desserts are awesome, every day they have a special flavor of the day plus the standard plain. The salads are fairly exotic with fruit, nuts, and cheese that wouldn’t be found in a salad in any diner. This place has an excellent house balsamic vinaigrette which is on all the sandwiches.
This place can get expensive quick, with the average appetizer costing $10 or more. Reservation recommended for dinner all nights, but I’ve always been immediately seated for lunch. I went one Tuesday night around 9pm and there wasn’t even room for two at the bar.

Not Your Ordinary Diner

Not Your Ordinary Diner is their self proclaimed tagline, but it couldn’t be more true. This is the first time I’ve ever been to a diner but can’t wait to go back.

I gave the resturant 5 stars, but that’s with the understanding that it is after all a diner, I’m reviewing pancakes and french toast here. The resturant does have all sorts of awards for best breakfast/best diner up on the wall, they had so many that some were pushed behind coffe cups.

The dinner itself is pretty small. There are eight 2-person tables, and six 4-person booths in the main room, and a diner counter with about 8 seats along the back. There’s a second room around the corner, which I didn’t really see but with I wouldn’t expect much more. When we entered the diner it was standing room only at the front waiting for a table. I think if the fire marshall came by he might have a problem with the way things were as it was almost impossible to get from the pay counter to the door. I would recomend two things – only bring one person with you as 2-seater tables turned over much quicker, and second, bring a magazine to read while you wait. Service was actualy very fast and I think the two of us waited about 15 minutes for our table.

The menu offers some innovative items, it was very hard to choose what to eat as so much looked good. breakfast is served all day, making the choice more difficult.

This place is vegetarian friendly.

Decadent. Two slices of french toast, stacked with Nutella and sliced strawberries and bananas in the middle. Covered with powdered sugar, sliced straweberries and bananans, and whip cream. This was amazingly good, the french toast was cooked perfectly and the flavor combination is perfect. They only problem with this dish is that it is so rich it might be hard to eat in entirety as your whole meal. My partner and I resolved this by splitting it.

Pancakes (short stack)

Standard pancakes, well made, made from scratch. Served with butter and suryup on the side.

Omlette with artichoke hearts, sundried tomatoes, spinach, and fettta cheese. Topped with salsa. Served with toast & home fries. Very tasty, althogh a little green looking. The home fries were perfect, I choose to get them with cheddar and onion.

High quality ingredents, decent price

They advertise the best sandwiches in town, and after one visit I believe them. The menu has excellent variety and for what you are getting the prices are very reasonable.

Breakfast Sandwiches run $1.55 to $4.75
Lunch Sandwiches run $2.99 to $5.99

I had a fantastic veggie sandwich – lettuce, cucumbers, carrots, tomato, onions, avocado on whole wheat bread. Anyplace that puts carrots on a sandwich without making a special request is after my heart, and they actually had fresh avocado to put on the sandwich – I saw them cut the avocado while making my sandwich. The only place in the lehigh valley where I’ve gotten good fresh avocado like this has been at sushi places. The carrots were fresh and jucy, not dried out like from a salad bar sitting out all day.

My companion had the grilled mesquite smoked turky with melted pepper jack cheese sandwich, the whole thing was toasted, he said the quality was excellent and portion plentyfull.

Best Mexican food around. Everything is super fresh and great tasting. The guacamole and nachos are phenomenal. Large menu, huge vegetarian selection and staff is willing to make substitutions.

Nawab is one of my favorite restaurants around. The bojia is amazing, and I’ve never found quite the same thing at any other Indian restaurant. Everything I’ve had here has been great. They have a daily lunch buffet which is affordable but the food doesn’t always taste as fresh nor as good as it would if you ordered it as an entrée. (The buffet isn’t bad, it’s just not as good as dinner). I like to go to the buffet periodically just for the chance to try some different things on their menu that I might not select on my own (that’s how I tried the bojia). Just thinking about this place is making my mouth water. I generally get take out here as service is very slow for a sit down dinner. One time with a party of four on a Saturday night we were immediately seated but it took 2 ½ hours for dinner.

Soft Serve

I recently went back to Vegan Treats, and this time I tried the soft serve ice cream. I was skeptical, so I asked for a sample which was freely given (but not easily as the machine has a rather large minimum it will dispense at once). They offer one flavor at a time, and the flavor changes whenever the current batch runs out, about every day or two. I count myself lucky to show up on a day that the flavor was pineapple (one of my favorite dessert fruits, but under represented in the ice cream world). It was fantastic! The consistency was a little unusual but very good, I let the ice cream sit in my car for about an hour when I was grocery shopping and it only slightly melted. I put it in the freezer, and it did get hard, but I set it out on the counter and it softened up to perfect consistency after about 30 minutes. In some bites the flavor was more vanilla than pineapple, and others more pineapple than vanilla. I highly recommend giving this a go, and as it is vegan, I’d recommend to those lactose intolerant people out there that don’t usually get to have ice cream (although you probably want to verify with the store that it is suitable for your allergies).

I can barely believe it’s Vegan! Try it! Avalable in a cone or take out container.

My favorite sandiwch bread

I absolutely love Milton’s. It’s very vegetarian friendly, and the bread is amazing. Since I’ve moved away from the area I order their multi-grain bread online. It keeps well in the freezer and makes fantastic toast.

I can’t recall what I’ve actualy eatten at the resturant location, but I went many times and always loved it. A bit pricey, but I’ve never finished more than half a sandwich in one sitting.

Fresh and Tasty

I’ve often passed by Johnny’s Bagels & Deli on my way to other nearby restaurants, but this past weekend I stopped in to check them out. I’m glad I did! I generally like bagels and bagel sandwiches, but it’s not something I get excited about. However I’m very excited about going back to Johnny’s for another garden veggie sandwich. The bagels are boiled in the NY style, making them thick and chewy. I had the honey oat (I think) and the spinach herb, both were fantastic. I was dubious about the spinach herb, a bit afraid it would taste like salty dehydrated spices, but it was absolutely delicious and fresh tasting. The garden veggie bagel sandwich comes with lettuce, tomato, green bell pepper, finely sliced red onion and cucumber. I added on Swiss cheese and deli mustard, it’s my new favorite sandwich. Service is friendly and fast, the place appears to be family owned & operated. There is a very casual, laid back vibe to the place with bulletin boards and fliers for all sorts of local community activities, events and organizations. A veggie sandwich and 20 oz diet coke came out under $5, and it was the best meal I had that weekend.
