Neat little Pub in Carson

I’m always on the lookout for a good pub. One that is not smoke-filled and wall-to-wall slot machines. I found The Feisty Goat tucked away in a little shopping center near Scolari’s, on Long Street. This place isn’t too far from where I live (Northridge subdivision) so that is a big plus in my book!

I walked in and immediately felt comfortable. The patrons and bartender were very friendly. A great place to wind down after work with an ale or two.

Pretty good selection of beers. Full bar. Some very good specialty drinks. Rob says his espresso martini is better than Chris’s at Carson Cigar Company. Now that is something I will find out for myself the next time I am at The Feisty Goat.

Also, there is a patio area out back for those of you who like to smoke when drinking (like I do occasionally)

Here’s some info from the owners of The Feisty Goat:

The Feisty Goat is the brainchild of Rob Rasner and Lucas Whitmore. Two local talents from the Carson area. The Feisty Goat is an upscale alehouse with a Bay Area feel. We strive to offer the highest quality ales and top shelf spirits available in the city in an atmosphere conducive to social interaction. Our goal is to provide the often overlooked niche markets in Carson with a less noisy, smoke free, higher quality, more visually appealing locale for business and social networking, or just to enjoy the company of like minded people. We strive to cater to the more professional crowd looking for a place to unwind after a hard days work, or maybe to grab that occasional two martini lunch, whatever your poison may be.

Dishes I tried:

Strong, full bodied wheat beer from the Interbrew Giants who put wheat beer on the map, 8.7%.

A tripel styke wheat beer tastes very much of Orange peel this beer is thick, strong and sweet with a very fruity finish.

Hoegaarden was invented by Pierre Celis many years ago in a successful attempt to revive the old beer style of making beer with wheat and not malted barley.

Holy Sh*t! Great Pizza in Carson?!

I stumbled across Brugos when going for a cup-o-joe at the Starbucks on 395 (in the old Super K Mart shopping center). I went in and boy were my hopes up! The place does offer Take-N-Bake pizza, but their restaurant is bistro style and a nice place to eat. They have some beers on tap (even have rootbeer on tap) as well as a good selection of bottled beer. Wine list was pretty good too.

There is no place, I mean NO place in Carson City that has what I would call “great” pizza. Okay, I’m a pizza snob.

That was true until I tried Brugos!!! Yay! Real pizza! Their ingredients are truly fresh and the dough (why do pizza joints always forget about, skimp, or go cheap on the pizza crust?!) was some of the best I ever had. And this is coming from someone who has tried pizza from NY City to SF Bay Area. I know my pizza.

I was in a rush and just decided to try their basic pepperoni pizza because they already had one made (fresh). It’s always good to get a taste of the basics. It was out of this world!

Since then I have tried a few of their specialty pizzas. They offer a few different sauces, and I must say I like every one of them. My favorite of late is Pepperoni with Jalepenos with their spicy red pepper sauce. YUM.

Highly recommended.

Tonight I will bring one home, Take-N-Bake style and try it on my grill. I’ll be it’ll be awesome.

Ok, Pepperoni Pizza. Yawn, right? NO. Not at Brugos. Gotta try it.

Newer Pub and Restaurant in Carson

I first heard about the Firkin & Fox Pub and Restaurant at the Nevada Day parade. They weren’t open yet, but they had a keg and were giving away tshirts and raffle tickets. My brother won a $20 gift certificate and we decided to use it once open. The place is at the renovated St. Charles hotel in downtown Carson City.

The pub is great and has a great restaurant area. The servers are very nice and they have a great selection of beer and a full bar. Tucked away in the back is a separate area called the Fox’s Den. The Den has video poker machines, a full bar, and you can smoke there in the “Den” if you wish. The main restaurant and bar does not permit smoking.

The menu has standard English pub selections including fish & chips, bangers beans and mash ( sausage, beens, mashed potatoes). They have great burgers and a pretty good selection of other foods. Their menu is online at http://www.thefirkinandfox.com

One of my favorites is the Smoked BBQ Beef Brisket sandwich! Yum! I will be having that for lunch today.

This place is a little pricey but I think it is worth it. Great atmosphere and usually packed on Friday and Saturday nights. I’ve been there a dozen times and the food has always been great. Try the “Lawmakers Lemonade” if you get a chance (hiccup!)

Thinly sliced smoked beef brisket tossed in their BBQ sauce. Served hot on a toasted ciabatta. Side of fries. A pint of Bass Ale goes great with this sandwich. :)
