Divinity in the Form of Ribs and Lemon Cake and Friends
Mrs. Dixie Porter (USAF Colonel-ret.) is one of the most amazing people I have had the privilege to meet. Together with her man, Gene, and daughter, L.J., they prepare a delicious feast of down home delights and adorn the feast with feisty friendship that lifts the spirit. They are generous souls who bless the well founded and the down n’ out alike. Their operation at Dixie’s BBQ certainly features great pork ribs, outstanding corn bread, sensational beans and rice…and my all-time favorite: Lemon Cake from heaven! Sometimes there is a wait and sometimes Gene Porter is a bit out of sorts and a bit owly. But what a great little retreat in the middle of a busy suburban/urban day! Since stumbling into their Northup Way shop a decade and a half ago, I can never quite bring myself to enter a chain BBQ joint again. The mix of great food and quirky ambience topped off with THE MAN hot sauce is a real joy-bringer!

The Ribs are terrific…but the Lemon Cake is the Coronation Event of the Dixie’s Experience! And it does have a salutary effect on any distress brought on by sampling The Man!

Aubrey's Mom and I Agree
This is the very best dining value in our Snohomish County region…and possibly the whole Puget Sound.
The Greek-Italian leaning entrees, the salads, the soups…there isn’t a clinker in the whole line-up! And to those who like generous portions at a very affordable price…this is the place for you! Warning: If you order the regular size salad, you will have enough for several meals! Oh…and this makes the trip even better: The owner and staff are outstanding hosts (fast yet friendly service). You really feel like you have walked into the kind of family setting you wish every family could have!
Dishes I tried:
Mediterranean Salad
Fresh ingredients…huge portions…and a dressing that is just right for the Greek-Italian mix of cheese and veggies.
It’s a blessing in every bite, it is!

Usually Great But Not On Sunday
My wife and I have enjoyed noon and evening dining at Emory’s since they opened in the 1990’s. The setting is oriented toward little Silver Lake and helps provide a calm, quiet feel to the dining experinece. Our only negative experience has come on Sunday afternoons.
Our most recent experience was a 1:00-2:45, October 5th visit. The food was okay but the service was very slow. Since we were enjoying our company, it wasn’t a big problem; but this appears to be an area that needs attention in an otherwise great place to dine.

Dishes I tried:
Brunch Specials (Eggs/Waffles)
Each of us ordered a slightly different omlette and waffle/egg combos. The food was a fine but took forever to prepare.

Queen Sondre of Snohomish
Several years ago, Sondre McCutcheon’s 100 year old house-restaurant burned to the ground. All of Snohomish and surrouding area seemed to mourn the passing of a dear member of the family. So, Sondre re-built and recreated the 100 year old house in close detail (adding some new modern refinements to curb future fires, too).
One year to the day of the first Cabbage Patch demise, she re-opened to the great relief and appreciation of the dining public.
The signature Cabbage Patch Soup is just the start of a long list of superlative fare…salads (try the cranberry-spinach); sandwiches, great variety of solid entrees, and desserts that are downright sinful…but, oh, so good…especially the pies! If it weren’t for the inevitable check at the end of your feast, you would think that you were at Grandma’s House…the country Grandma…the one who could really cook!
After a few hours of antique browsing on 1st Street, head half way up Avenue A and you will be receive a royal welcome, service and fantastic food!
Dishes I tried:
Turkey Chowder and Spinach Salad and Bread and Scones
I broke stride and ventured away from the always excellent Cabbage Patch Soup. I was not disappointed: large chunks of turkey and potato in a creamy base and nicely seasoned. It was like a mini-Thanksgiving feast in a bowl! The choice of salads for this special isn’t easy, either. They are all excellent! But the spinach/cranberry/and candied pecan combo. is especially tasty.
Oh, and the friendly server always brings a scone with a homemade berry compote/marmalade to baptize it with. You might even get another if you ask real nice!

Strip Mall Surprise
Whether it was the Showering Rama or the Pandara Curry (with ample mixed vegetables); this Thai restaurant was accompanied with gracious, efficient service. And, yes, the entrees were outstanding in every way. We had several people with dietary issues in our group and they were even satisfied as well!
To add to the very pleasent experience, a “bus girl” noticed that I had left my glass case behind. That young lady sprinted as fast as any Olympian to my car. “These are yours I do believe, sir.” she replied. And the accompanying genuine warm smile put a great benediction on our time there!

Dishes I tried:
Panara Curry-1 Star
Each bite was a delight. I chose the mixed vegetable option and was impressed with the quantity and quality of the beans, brocoli and other produce included. The mild spice option was just right for me. And those who ordered a slightly hotter version of same noted the appropriate seasoning per request also.

Amiable Ambience, Attentiveness and Cucina Cuisine
Lombardi’s is our family place of choice for a quiet, Sunday after church dinner. The Mediteranean menu is prepared by above average chefs and served by an excellent wait staff. Even a party of ten can visit with one another as if we were in our own home dining room. The many tables overlooking the Everett Marina also lend a nice touch to the overall experience. The Tuscan attitude of unhurried, warm and friendly atmosphere prevails here. Oh…and the Butternut Squash Filled Ravioli Shells….mmmmm-bueno!

Dishes I tried:
Butternut Squah Ravioli
With a touch of nutmeg and a bit of mint leaf on the side, these little pasta pillows of sweet buttery squash reside in a light sauce that you will want to sop with a piece of their trademark elephant garlic spread bread. It was a pure taste delight.

Pricey Pause That Blesses
My wife and I have dined both in the formal Hunt Club Restaurant and the Hotel Lounge area. The ambience in the Hunt Club restaurant reminds me of a dignified club atmosphere: dark paneled wood and subdued lighting. However, at Christmastime, the greens and golden lights adds a nice, festive touch.
Our preference, though, is to order off the more limited and lighter menu in the Hotel Lounge. The prices are still pricey but the service is personable and attentive. Salads and sandwiches are $10-16 but ordered with a bottomless cup of coffee and complimentary homemade potato chips, it makes for a nice light meal. The lounge setting of this fine, hundred year old hotel is classy and relaxing. There is a mix of tables, couches and overstuffed chairs (with side tables). Certain hours also feature a talented piano player/singer that adds to the gracious charm of it all.
Dishes I tried:
Huntsburger (Kobe Beef)
With a side of fries, the third of a pound quality sandwich is juicy and very tasty. The preparation and presentation is also done very well.
