Great ambiance; disappointing food. The wine, on the other hand, was truly excellent. 1. Lamb Chops. These were fine, but uninspired. 2. Ahi Tacos. The mango/fruit topping completely overwhelmed the taste of the Tuna. 3. Romaine Salad. eh… Try the Kenneth Volk Mourvedre 2005 if available.

Um… The food was not good. Our waiter was really nice, but when he asked where we were visiting from, I got worried. I don’t think a lot of people living in the City go here, at least not more than once.

Zachary's Chicago Pizza

Oct 29, 2007 Link

Hmm... Deep Dish

Zachary’s is delicious. The thick-crust is amazing, particularly the way they cook the tomatoes that go into the sauce. The thin-crust, however, should not be overlooked. It’s tasty and I like that they put the toppings under the cheese. I’ve never actually eaten at the restaurant – the pickup, full or half baked are always good options.

What I ate:
  • *****

    Hands down classic.

The Mushroom and Pineapple choice is a rare one made by a friend. I had some Mushroom & Jalapeno which was good, but very spicy. They put the jalapenos on top of the cheese and the mushrooms on the bottom, which was smart, since some people picked off the jalapenos, but no one complained about the mushrooms.

Great Lunch Spot and not bad for happy hours either. The tarragon chicken sandwich I had for lunch was excellent.

I ate the Pollo sandwich. Why don’t restaurants distinguish between chicken sandwiches and chicken salad sandwiches anymore? Anyway, the chicken salad was fine, but nothing memorable.

Best Chicken Tikka Masala I’ve had on Polk street. The Saag Paneer was a bit watery. The Aloo Mattar was a solid dish. I still haven’t been to the restaurant, but their delivery is excellent.

Spicy Pile O’ Beef deliciousness. This delightful spot has a dilapidated awning that may turn the wary away, but I enjoyed their outside table on and you have to respect any eating establishment whose menu includes “Pile O’ Beef” and “Meat Mountain.” The ribs and skewers were the best. I don’t need to try the short ribs again.

One Market Restaurant

I went to One Market for a friends birthday party. The food was not memorable. What really earned One Market two stars, however, was that the manager tried to overcharge us for the wine. The restaurant displayed an enormous sign that all bottles of wine were half off for the evening. When the check came, however, they charged us full price on the rationale that we were a party of six or more. The manager ultimately relented after being unable to present any evidence that the discount didn’t apply to larger parties. Still, it ruined the meal and took an inordinate amount of time to figure out.

Burma Superstar Restaurant

Oct 22, 2007 Link

Amazing for Three Dishes

I’ve eaten here many times and tried most of the dishes they offer. The more often I went, the more frequently I would only order the Samusa Soup and the Rainbow Salad. Both dishes are amazing. If you crave more variety or more options, the Tea Leaf salad is a solid choice. The Burma Lemonade, or whatever they call the beer and lemonade drink, is a worthwhile companion.

What I ate:
  • *****

This is simply the best soup I’ve had in the city. A completely different flavor than anything I had experienced previously. Order this and the Rainbow Salad for two and enjoy.

I’m sad I don’t live near Chez Maman anymore. They make the most decadent hamburger I’ve ever had.
