Excellent birthday lunch with best pal,...
Excellent birthday lunch with best pal, Dianne. Decorated in its Christmas best, the restaurant was fantastic. Dianne had the tasty butterfish – so light and smooth. I had the Kobe Bavette, medium rare – heaven! We shared the Fall Salad and the Carmelized Vanilla Soaked Savarin. Holy cow – everything was delightful and even though we had salad, entree, and dessert, the meal wasn’t heavy or overpowering. Happy Birthday to Me!

Heaven disguised as a fish taco
It’s impossible for me to try anything else at Papalote’s as I love the fish tacos far too much. Each time I eat there, I have a secret fear that it might be the last time so despite my best intentions to branch out to other items that I’m sure will be delightful, I rashly order the tacos and silently berate myself for my own cowardice. Luckily, the tacos are a reward unto themselves. White fish with what appears to be a mild wine & garlic butter saute and perfectly seasoned pico de gallo make these tacos my hands down favorite. I take everyone here because I need to share the perfection wrapped in corn tortillas.
I went last night with a friend and ate inside, desperately wishing they’d turn a fan on us diners. The normally cozy dining room was unbearably stuffy in the oppressive heat and three beers didn’t help. Well, they did help but not with the heat….
Dishes I tried:
Pescado Tacos
I want never to eat any other fish taco for fear of diluting the memory of Papalote’s pescado tacos.

I know it's San Francisco and air conditioning...
I know it’s San Francisco and air conditioning is out of the question but would it be so wrong to install ceiling fans. Cha Cha Cha was seriously oppressive. Luckily, the Cubano sandwich was just perfect and their plantain chips are to die for. Seasoned so right, they make me want to slap my momma. And the aioli – Holy Crap, I can only assume the angels wept into this delight and I get to dip my plantain fries right into it. Fab!
