4.0Sockeye Favorites
We eat at Sockey about once a month, and have for years. Sunday they have reduced price pitchers, and they have live music on Tuesday and Friday nights. Service on the bar side (left as you walk in) tends to be more predictable than on the restraunt side, especially if you are eating at off-peak times. They have a variety of beers brewed on-site, about 6 that are always available and some seasonals and brewers whim. The amber is our favorite.
Food quality varies depending on who’s in the kitchen and the season. The fingersteaks , brewhouse wings, and sweet potato fries are most consistently good. The Lemon Peppered Salmon Salad is another favorite, but order it with romaine. (When I first had it it was on mixed baby greens, then without warning they changed to iceburg)
The menu and beer list is available on the website www.sockeyebrew.com
Dishes I tried:
Lemon Pepper Coho Salad
This is a grilled samon served on a large salad, dressed in a vinagretette and topped with spiced pecans and feta cheese. The first time I ever had this, I thought it was one of the best salads that I’ve ever eaten. This most recent visit left me disappointed. The seasoning on the salmon was bland as was the dressing. I was disappointed the last time, but thought it was because of the iceburg lettuce they’d used. I’ll give it one more try.
Brew House Wings
A bit of a misnomer. These are actually strips of chicken breast that are fried without any kind of breading and tossed in sauce. Their hot sauce is a traditional buffalo style and the hubby loves the sweat on the brow that develops about half way through. He likes them better than any others that we’ve discovered. An order of these with a couple of side salads ($3.75) or house salad ($5) makes a good meal for 2 people.
Sweet Potato Fries
Sweet potatoes made into french fries. Yum. Sweet and crispy and served with a chipoltle mayo. I like them also with plain mayo or ranch.
Helldiver Finger Steaks
A hearty serving of finger steaks. I’ve had a couple orders over the years that were over cooked or tough meat, but usually very good. They also have this priced as a meal with fries. They’ll substitute sweet potato fries for an upcharge, which is a good choice and a big enough serving to share with someone. They serve it with coctail sauce and BBQ – I usually ask for chipoltle mayo and ranch instead.
