A Summer Standout
Patio dining at its best, overlooking the soothing lake.
Wonderful lunch with daughter and friend from out-of-state. Great wine, hot crusty bread, a pate and veggies to share.

Doc's At The Village Barns
Jun 10, 2008
New Beginnings
Doc’s has moved from their tiny, cozy setting on Lake Waramoug to the Village of Kent. Terrific location in a beautifully restored old home. Patio dining, active bar scene, great seating in a enclosed porch. This is the place to see and be seen.

Venetian Restaurant
Apr 14, 2008
Old World Italian
Elegant front room, tightly packed back room.
Warner Theater night understandable rush, but service was harried without bringing the menus or the wine ordered after 20 minutes.
The selections weren’t exciting or adequate. Nothing unusual or tempting. The bread, olive oil and salads were basic. The veal parm and marsala were okay, nothing to write about. The steak looked cooked to a perfect medium rare but the roasted potato was a waxy mass, almost like a large matza.

Rib Eye
Cooked to a perfect medium rare but the potato was wanting and the vegetable eatable.

Spectacular Daily Choices
Today’s choice: a dense slice of meatloaf in a light gravey, topped with a slice of thin cheese, argula and bright red peppers. Chose it platted but could be a sandwich.
This was runner up to a hot bar filled with peppers and sausage, macaroni and bacon, braised brisket (a Thursday special).
The speciality sandwiches range from the Godfather to the Godmother to the Cubano and the Monte Cristo.
Salads are cool and crisp, made to order or chosen from display.
Breakfast sandwich for 99 cents served all day.
Clean, fast service if you can make a quick decision.

Julio's Wood Fired Pizza & Grill

Italian Trattoria
Chicken Caesar Salad a favorite, the thin crusted pizzas wonderful.
My complaint, I’d like to see an antipasto individual platter or salad.
Comfortable lunch and dinner crowd, from quiet families, to a group of teens, to golfers, to seniors.
Great bread with seasoned butter.

Mixed Luncheon Salad
Okay, but wasn’t interesting enough.

Sake Asian Fusion Cuisine

Asian Cuisine
Open every day; major credit cards accepted.
Tempting choices from the sushi bar, possibly the mango and chicken salad, spring roll with Thai chili sauce, or one of the Malaysian dishes.
My friend enjoyed the cooked eel cucumber roll and salmon avocao while I stayed with a favorite: Pad Thai.
A large, open room catered by experienced help.
A number of business lunches, mothers and babies, women alone at lunch.
Will return to be more daring.
-
