Behemoth Burrito Madness!
Located kitty-corner from the Everett Events Center. This place is fast becoming popular. Get past the fact that you have to bus your own table. The setting area has an inner charm of an old brick building with bits of Mexicali decor. A family atmosphere feel.
Belly up to the counter and order your meal. Now, when they say “GRANDE,” they mean it. Bring your appetite here, and leave your inhibitions at the door. We’re talking total burrito indulgence ala feeling like you had a Thanksgiving meal and leaving with a take out container for left-overs. Their normal burrito is a grande by any other mexican restaurants’ standards. A Gordito’s Grande means you can feed a small country. Ok, so not maybe a small country, but easily a family of 4 people.
The food comes out hot and authentic. I measured it against socal and Baja California standards of mexican cuisine. Take the time to eat this food and savor every bite!
I can finally say, “Make mine big and make it wet!”
Dishes I tried:
Prawn Fajita Burrito Grande, Wet, Medium
HUGE burrito stuffed with sauteed prawns, oinions, peppers, rice, whole pinto beans, cilantro, salsa, spices, and guacamole. It takes 2 tortillas to wrap this baby. Medium wasn’t as hot as I thought it was going to be, but there is a salsa bar to add to it. Get it wet, where they top your burrito with a sauce- in my case a tangy salsa verde. Then topped weith melted cheeses and sour cream.

YAR! There be fresh fish 'ere at IVARS!
I took a group of colleagues here for lunch on Friday 5/16/07. Simply excellent service, food, and atmosphere. The remodeled seating area is only about 2-3 years old and offers a great view of ferries and Puget Sound. You can read about the storm that destroyed the seating area and the voyage of the “lucky wooden fish.” Everything is very clean.
The food and entrees were well prepared and very fresh. A fancy lunch and pricey, but excellently executed!
Dishes I tried:
Chef's Lunch Special- Grilled NW Ling Cod
Succulent, moist and flavorful grilled ling cod with a raspberry balsalmic sauce. Garlic mashed taters and steamed asparagus as sides – perfect!

Filipine Flavour!
Hole in the trailer on wheels. Lunchtime take out that closes at 5. Don’t expect seating. Jun’s runs on generator power and propane. Jun cooks the food and is a pleasant fellow to talk to. He hopes to open a restaurant. This was my first time to Juicy’s. He has many of the items premade warming in a hot line much like a panda express. I bet getting there very early lunch hour would be perfect for getting “right from the wok” goodness. He’s located in the back lot next to the Everett Oriental Grocery and Love Pantry.
Dishes I tried:
Combo meal
The combo meal is a great value at $5.50. You get 2 entrees and a choice of rice, fried rice, pancit, or half n half. I chose white rice and pancit. The pancit was very good with snow peas, carrots and cabbage, small rice noodle and medium noodle all stirfried fresh. A little lime on top and makes a nice side dish. The white rice was a bit overdone, but at least it wasn’t underdone. I had the chicken adobo ( a touch too salty). Overall the adobo was a savory stewed chicken dish with the traditional hint of vinegar. I also chose BBQ pork and it was delicious. The meat was tender and with asian BBQ goodness and a nice sweet meat next to the adobo. The food got cold fast because was take out. I’d try this again for sure.
Lumpia side
Perfect lumpia (traditional filipine fried spring roll). The shell is thin and crispy. Be careful he cooks them to order and they are very hot. The filling is shredded pork and veggies. Nicely prepared and a delicious treat. Sweet chili sauce for dippin’ and you’re set. You get 8 in side. Share with friends!

Pho Sure... tasty soup!
A curious “hole in the wall” type joint. The seating area is clean and always packed with a variety of people at lunch time (very good sign). I’ve eaten here a few times. I love the PHO soups. Be ready to split one of these gigantic lunches or have leftovers. I usually call ahead and get takeout. Parking here can be tough as it is in a difficult location on evergreen. Easier to get to if heading north or during low traffic days. Looks to be a family run place. Overall a great lunchtime value.
Dishes I tried:
Chicken Pho (P13.)
I get take out. Everything is packed separately to ensure a quality meal. Too bad there is so much styrofoam (3 containers). You get a large takeout container of pho noodles (sometimes sticky- it goes in the broth anyway though). Plenty of traditional herbs and condiments to add to the soup. The broth is simply good chicken broth with a ton of white meat chicken in it. You get about a quart of broth.

Really nice Thai
This is a small, tidy Thai place. The exotic facades and decor make it interesting. Staff are dressed in traditional style clothing which adds to the charm of the place. Prices are a bit high here for the meal. The meals do have extra details that set them apart from other Thai places, but it isn’t quite enough for higher prices. I like to go here with a group of friends or colleagues from work occasionally. http://www.lannathaieverett.com/
Dishes I tried:
Lunch Special
Their lunch special changes daily. Meals are still a bit spendy for lunch. Lunch always starts with soup of the day and their hot n sour is excellent (had shitake and veggies in it). My only complaint is they use a bit too much thickener (I prefer more of a liquid broth). The fresh avocado appetizer rolls are delicious. They bring 1 small piece for each person at your table. I had a red curry entree on this particular occasion. Nicely done, and a lunchtime sized portion. I like the brown rice option which is tasty with the curry sauce on it. The pud thai is some of the best I’ve had, and I have to agree with Arlahna that it needs lime (one detail they seem to always miss). The meal ends with a coconut shortbread cookie and mango ice cream. A two bit portion to make you happy and wanting more.

Almost the Holy Grail of Teriyaki
This is just a step up from a hole in the wall joint. It’s hit or miss as far as temperature in the seating area. Very cold when it’s cold outside due to the fact that they keep the doors open. I don’t think their exhaust fans work. As evidenced by the smokey-teriyaki vapor that is sometimes floating around in here. Careful if you dine in, you may walk out smelling like you work the grill. This is a “mom & pop” place and the people are very nice who run it. I think they maybe the owners. I suggest take-out here, though you get bigger portions if you dine in.
Dishes I tried:
Teriyaki Chicken Salad
The teriyaki chicken is served on the side so as to not wilt the lettuce. The salad is fresh and crisp, a bit wet from storage and should be spun. The dressing is awesome (a creamy thousand island style asian version with a little kick). The chicken is grilled nicely with good grill marks and the sauce is a nice tasty glaze. They gave us as much dressing as we wanted! This dish does not come with rice, as shown. Perfect for the low carb folks.

Excellent Japanese Cuisine
A superb little japanese place that has more to offer than sushi. The seating area is very clean, and hip with the modern black-white decor. The staff are very polite and friendly, and clean. I witnessed the fellow at the sushi counter wash his hands many times throughout my meal. The big screen has various movies playing, as sort of background art.
I’ve been to this restaurant about 15 times since they opened. I have always had an excellent meal here. I mainly get the bento box since it has a variety of flavors and textures.
Lunch time can get busy and the quality is still consistently excellent. A few months ago they changed from very nice dinner-ware style wood chopsticks to the cheap takeout versions due to the volume of customers. I remarked to the fellow at the counter that their food is always so nicely presented and excellent, that it is uncomplimentary for them to use those cheap takeout sticks. Afterall, they have class. A few weeks later they replaced the sticks with a nice black composite version. My point is they pay attention to their customers and are interested in your feedback.
Dishes I tried:
Bento Box
Simply an excellent meal. Starting with the miso soup- perfectly done (I prefer a bit more tofu, as I love tofu). I ususally get a green tea and it is the traditional powder style and very good. The hibatchi style chicken is very savory in a light mushroom-teriyaki based sauce that is delicious on the perfectly prepared rice. The tempura shrimp and veggies are “to die for!” (crispy, light, not greasy) perfectly dipped in the saki-tamari sweet sauce that comes with the bento. The salad is always fresh and crisp with a great seasame rice wine dressing. The california rolls are tasty bites (3 pieces).
All of this food comes with the bento. I plan to try some of their other dishes as well, but it is hard not to order the bento.

Blimpie Wannabe? No Cheesesteak!
A clean deli atmosphere here. The gals running the counter were very friendly and had lots of suggestions for what they liked. Maybe a bit aggressive; I like to peruse the menu and decide for myself. I can ask for help or suggestions if I want them. At least they seemed happy. Happy employees is part of the equation for a quality meal.
The pepsi fountain was out of commission, and they didn’t do much to aleviate that problem. We’ll discount you on a 2-litre pepsi? Nope, I just went with water.
I appreciated the 2 tv’s with different channels going. They weren’t loud and obnoxious and there was a decent rock radio station on.
Besides my italian, I was able to have a piece of a Famous Philly that Josh shared. I’ve been to Philadelphia and had the best cheesteaks ever at Geno’s: http://www.genosteaks.com/home1.html
Let’s just say that the cheesesteak here was a serious afront to true philly cheesesteaks. Mike’s- Leave the cheesesteaks to the pro’s!
Dishes I tried:
The Original Italian (Giant)
I expected a magnificent monstersized sub sandwich extravaganza for $10.00. The sandwich was dressed “Mike’s way” lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo, mustard, oil, vinegar, oregano, salt, pepper. The flavor was excellent with provolone, ham, proscuittini, cappacuolo, salami, and pepperoni. The problem was they were skimpy on the meat. Thin sliced meat has great flavor and texture, but usually you get short-changed by inexperienced Deli folks or cheapskates. For $10.00, that sandwich should’ve been packed. The bread was a touch dry.
If you want value, classic italian deli flavor, go to Blimpie.

I believe it closed over a year ago.
I do remember the owners were very skimpy with the meat on the sandwiches. Totally business and not a friendly deli atmosphere. Rush you through the line to get to the checkout.
There is an unaffiliated Blimpie at the Buffalo Chevron on 132nd Street, a little further north of this location.

Chicken? Beef? Are you kidding?
Checkit out. This was, by far, the worst teriyaki I’ve ever had the displeasure to consume (Zero Stars if I could). I accompanied Josh on the foray to the newly discovered teriyaki joint, as we have many lunchtime adventures in the local Everett gastronomical scene. The sit-in area was 60’s throwback dusty silk plants with hole-in-the-wall decor. Fine by me as long as the food is good. Well, the food (if you’d call it that) was poorly prepared.
We both ordered the chicken-beef combo meals. Was that chicken? It had not the flavor of poultry; how could anything that DRY have flavor? And the beef was no better. It rivaled Oberto teriyaki jerky, except I liked Oberto’s version much better than this pathetic attempt.
We’re probably lucky we didn’t get sick. We went to our favorite teriyaki joint after we left this place, to get a quality teryaki lunch.
Dishes I tried:
Chicken and Beef Teriyaki
Coul’ve replaced the soles of my boots with this lunchtime disaster of a meal.
