OK for the money
This is not a gourmet restaurant, but it isn’t bad. It’s like a Double T (of Catonsville) of Chinese. The food isn’t wonderful, but is respectable and the prices are low. My favored Chinese establishment of the neighborhood has doggedly refused to serve egg rolls for 21 years now, despite my pleas, so when I want egg rolls, I go to Hunan Diamond.
Dishes I tried:
Special Lo Mein
The noodles were firm and well textured, but slightly over-oiled. The shrimp were surprisingly abundant. I asked for it hot. I could stand the excessive pepper oil, but then, I am one who eats vindaloo (hot indian dish) that makes normal men run in fear. If you like your dishes spiced up, tell them to go easy on the hot sauce.
Moo Shu Pork
This was surprisingly well done. The cabbage was fully cooked and retained just the right amount of crunch. Mushrooms and various chinese veggies abounded and there was plenty of pork. The pancakes were acceptable, but just. I felt they were, perhaps made elsewhere and reheated, but this wasn’t a big deal to me. Overall, I enjoyed the dish. I had this, soup and 2 egg rolls for 12 bucks. The portions were so large that I’ll have the other half for lunch tomorrow.
Hot and Sour Soup
This was as good as any I’ve ever had. So often, this dish can be a sorry consume’ with a few veggies and bean curd (that’s what yuppies call "tofu"), But this was a flavorful, interesting soup. Get some!
