American recipes with a Russian twist!

I love to cook Russian/Ukrainian dishes that my grandmother used to make. I believe in eating whole foods (not processed) and making your own cheeses, baking breads, and juicing your own fruit.

Good, simple food

At 7pm on a Saturday the place was not very full. In fact only a few tables were taken up. The staff is quick and they bring you a basket of garlic bread right away. The atmosphere is quiet and the cuban music that plays definitely makes you feel as if you are in Cuba!

Some of the dishes on the menu were quiet expensive, but others pretty affordable. Again, depends on what you get, the seafood is always more expensive. The menu is also broken down into two sections: Cuban and Peruvian. You can order from either, but I ordered from the Cuban section. Many of their menu items have a note that says it will take 30 minutes to make. That’s a good idea to put that beside the dish description, that way if someone is extremely hungry they won’t order something that takes half hour to prepare.

Whenever I try a new restaurant, I always like to see what their health inspection score is. I looked everywhere here and couldn’t find it hanging anywhere.

Langostinos a la Plancha

The shrimp were well seasoned, but came out a bit cold. The white rice was nice as well. (you have an option of getting white or yellow rice). The dish also came with a cup of bean soup and a plate of fried plantains. Plantains and the bean soup were very tasty. Everything is well seasoned.

For an appetizer we ordered Empanadas de carne, which were quiet good as well. The filling was ground meat, olives, and onions. The pastry was hot and flaky.
