west river cafe
This place is amazing for a inexpensive but tasty breakfast or lunch. You must go in here, the outside of the place does not do it justice. West river cafe is very clean, which is very important to me as well as quite good in terms of portion size, price, and quality.the oweners seem to be there all the time and are friendly and seem to care about their business.
Dishes I tried:
skirt steak skillet
A lot of real steak, 3 eggs and a ton of potatoes. Would of got 5 stars if the wheat toast was real whole wheat toast, but for 6 bucks i’m more then pleased.

I have been here at least 5 times and like...
I have been here at least 5 times and like many asian places in the hood, there is a strong Korean influnce here, I believe the wife(one of the owners)is Korean, not sure about the husband. I can’t remember the name for sure but the spicy fried pork, if thats what it is called, is YUM!!! They have that popular Korean plate with the jellyfish sea cucumber and the other stuff that u mix all up and enjoy with friends, that i love. V.I.P. has reasonable prices and is much more friendly then most places with Korean owners, this is not a dig at Koreans, my Korean friend explained that customer service just isn’t the same in Korea. I would say order what you like, but also try something off the non- english side of the menu, if you are brave.
Dishes I tried:
Spicy fried pork
This is my fav. I do like the blk noodle and soup split dish also, as the other review mentions. Also if you nvr had it, try jellyfish, it’s so very good

I hate to love Great Sea
This place has an amazingly cold and sometimes rude owner, they are stingy and more expensive then other asian resturants in the area that are on the same level. That being said you may wonder why I go back, well the food is supurb, the veggies are fresh and crisp, the pieces of meat in the dishes are large and seem to be of good quality, and the chicken wings cannot be described by any words I know. The daughters of the owner who man the till sometimes are far more pleasent, but you would think soy sauce is gold the way they horde it, one package of soy sauce for a 30-40 dollar order seems like a cruel joke and if u ask for more you may get 3 packs. Notice the sign on the wall in the mens room if you do stop in, you will see what I mean, I promise. All in all, I hate to love this place, but I will keep going because I love the food more then despise the dictator like owner. The waitstaff is okay. P.S. Many Korean dishes on menu.
Dishes I tried:
Chicken wings
Wings are lollipoped, the meat being pushed to the end of the bone, no need to break anything apart, then put into a sweet yet spicy thick sauce with green onion and garlic, among other flavors that i cant describe. Sauce is so good that they sell it in jars at the counter, not sure how legal it is beacuse there is no ingrediant or nutritional info on jar, not even an exp. date.

Do not go to aye aye picante
I have eaten almost every kind of food there is to eat, so I like to think I know crap when I see it. I do not understand why this place remains open, I thought perhaps I just ordered the worst things on the menu but my friends didn’t like their food either, I ordered the seco de carne, and we shared the fried calamari with peruvian spices. To start, we were brought little pieces of bread with a homade salse of some sort. The salsa was amazing, a bit creamy and different, so far so good. The calamari arrives, fried calamari which is ok with no noticable spices of any sort, garnished with cold canned corn, yuk. My entree arrives, i cannot remember the description on the menu which made my mouth water however what i got was tough and grainy, low quality pot roast simmered in tomato sauce w some veggies, not the tender marinated slices of beef and so on. I did see a steak go to another table that looked okay but I didn’t go ethnic to eat steak. The service was fantastic and the place is nice looking inside, too bad the food sucks.
Dishes I tried:
Seco de carne
I would of gave it no stars if I could. Cheap pot roast, don’t believe the menu.

Welcome to heaven
From start to finish, no detail has been left to chance. The service is great, the owner is nice, the menu…Over 15 fresh flown in daily seafood dishes with quality that would rival any expensive downtown fish house at a fraction of the price. Don’t get me wrong the breakfast is great and nothing wrong with the sandwiches, but people we live in Chicago, great, really great seafood is not around every corner. Glenn’s is a seafood lovers dream and is currently my only 5 star review. I have been many times so i’ll tell you about the last meal i ate there, the scallop dinner(one of the many blackboard specials) they were pan seared at my best guess about 2 oz. each, my meal came with baby red potatoes and asparagus drizzled with a delicate light cream sauce. The presentation was flawless, I took a picture with my cell phone, which has since been deleted, and sent it to some friends who were working to touture them. Next time I go I will try the blackened baramundi. Glenn’s offers all you can eat specials some weekdays for dinner on high end menu items. Prices are very fair for what you get, most seafood dinners are around 20 bucks. I would love to go for the the all you can eat alaskan king crab legs sometime which they offer one day a week right now, I assume specials are seasonal, all you can eat specials are around 26 bucks but do vary. Happy dinning!
Dishes I tried:
Pan seared scallops
Simply put, the best scallops I ever had, see review for description.
Clam chowder
Rich, thick and creamy with large pieces of clams and real flavor, real homeade goodness.

Dinner for two?
Nice place, easy parking for the area, sexy waitresses in tight outfits, and oh yeah, the food is real good. I guess i’m gonna have to try the whole snapper after reading other reviews but so far my fav. is the dinner for two. I ordered this with my friend who can eat more then me and we really shoulda stopped before we finished it, it was a huge platter of snapper, shrimp, squid, crab, octopus, and other meats. This absurd amount of food comes on a giant cutting boad with rice and beans cooked in what i’m guessing is lard. This is one hundred percent worth the heart attack you may incur after eating. In addition to large portions of great tasting food, they have a full bar, and tables have at least 10 diff. hot sauces to try along with the few homeade salsas they bring you with dinner.
Dishes I tried:
Dinner comb.(for two)
Lots of seafood and meat and veggies, rice and beans. You will probobly not finish this or most dinners here for that matter.

LOUIS
01/02/2009I had the calamaris …. best flavor, is crunchy, tasteful, and soft, the secret is on the breading, the chef knows very well how to use the spices on the breading, this is by far my favorite dish, and i have this same dish all over town, AY AY Picante makes it the best!!
