Manna from Heaven
The restaurant is a small mom and pop teriyaki shop, the kind I missed so much when I was away from Seattle. The decor is nothing special, but that lets the food shine even brighter. Friendly staff brings your order to the table piping hot (though not necessarily at the same time) with a bottle of the house teriyaki sauce, which although a bit on the sweet side is delicious with hints of plum? There’s serve yourself water and tea, the tea being comfort in a cup to me.
Dishes I tried:
Chicken Yakisoba
This has been my favorite comfort food for the past 20 years, a big plate with cabbage, carrots, onion, broccoli, and sweet teriyaki chicken scattered throughout a buckwheat noodle nest. The veggies always have a bit of crunch left to them and the chicken is tender and moist.
Spicy Chicken Teriyaki
A mild to medium heat to the chicken, that actually has flavor rather than just spice. There’s sweet and tangy nuances that make the chicken irresistible. Served with steamed rice and a salad, the perfect warming dish for a chilly day.
