A utopia for salad lovers
California Grill has a wide array of delicious and different salads to choose from, available for both lunch and dinner. They are heaped high on large plates and cost around $10-$14 each, depending on the salad. In the past, they offered half-sizes of their salads which were much more sensible for one person to enjoy – and at half the price, they were much easier on the wallet, as well. Sharing of a dinner salad is recommended, as taking the salad home in a Styrofoam to-go container generally results in soggy lettuce and a wet mess the next day.
In addition to salads, they also offer some delicious chilled fruit soups (seasonally), appetizers, and vegetarian entrees. Entrees come with the choice of either soup or a salad – and oftentimes it is hard to choose between the two! The cucumber dill dressing is very good – my main reason for ordering a house salad when I do – and their soups are great, as well.
Dishes I tried:
Vegetarian burrito
A large burrito that is FULL of veggies – yellow squash, zucchini, carrots, onions, beans, etc. Comes with a side of sour cream, salsa, and guacamole in charming little tortilla shell cups.

I visited this Indian restaurant for dinner...
I visited this Indian restaurant for dinner one night after I discovered that the other Indian restaurant I often frequented had closed down. There were only a few other tables at the restaurant the night I went, but the lack of customers does not mean that the food was bad. I think there are some people who are still hesitant to try Indian food, but so was I at first and then I became addicted to it.
I had a nice dinner here for about $15. The atmosphere is nice, but it was a little dark inside and kind of hard to read the menu. There were many vegetarian options on the menu, but I already knew what I wanted upon entering the restaurant: malai kofta and garlic naan bread. Both were delicious.
Dishes I tried:
Malai kofta
The delicious kofta balls, which are like Indian meatless-meatballs, are made with potato, paneer cheese, mixed vegetables, and various spices. The kofta are served in a thick sauce along with basamati rice.
Garlic naan bread
What’s there not to love about hot, garlicy naan bread?

Nice atmosphere, not too fancy, and there is...
Nice atmosphere, not too fancy, and there is also a full bar. The prices are in the mid-to-high range, but the portions are generous. There are two menus to order from: the dinner menu and the lunch/lighter fare menu.
I have been here for dinner twice with family and the food was excellent on both occasions. At my table, someone ordered the Lamb Montmorency. I did not taste it (for obvious reasons), but it looked delicious and there was a generous portion of lamb for $28.
Dessert was the only course that I, admittedly, was disappointed about. They offered triple chocolate cake, carrot cake, cheese cake, and ice cream the one night I visited – nothing too extraordinary.
Dishes I tried:
Mushroom Ravioli
“Mushroom and Ricotta Cheese Filled Ravioli with Sauteed Mushrooms and Fresh Herbs.”
Potato Leek Soup
One word: Delicious!! So far it is my favorite thing here. The soup is creamy, but not too thick, and flavorful. It is topped with roasted garlic creme fraiche.
Apple Harvest Salad
“Honey and Bourbon Baked Granny Smith Apples atop a Bed of Field Greens tossed with Apple Cider Vinaigrette, Crumbled Blue Cheese and Candied Walnuts.”
Carrot Cake
Good, but nothing special.

A decent vegetarian cheese steak? No way!
This is the only completely vegetarian place to eat in the Reading Terminal Market. Here they offer breakfast and lunch; quick things to take and go. Cash only and no bills over a $20, which is a little inconvenient when – on a few occasions that I have been there – I have only had a debit card on me. That would probably be my only reason for rating it 4 stars instead of 5 stars.
When I come here, I usually order the vegetarian cheese steak, loaded up with lettuce, tomato, onion, and a little bit of mayo (Veganaise, I believe.) It is reasonably priced and delicious.
Dishes I tried:
Vegetarian cheese steak sandwich
A little messy, but still tasty and a great veggie alternative to a traditional cheese steak. I have a big appetite and often come here hungry, so I always eat all of mine.
