Fuji Hana
May 26, 2008
New Eastern Cuisine option for Terrytown LA
The former Ryan’s Buffet building has been tastefully and elegantly renovated to house the Fuji Hana restaurant. Three dedicated areas are defined by the seating options for each dining style: Sushi bar, hibachi grill, and table service. I went on the second day it was open; service was not yet running smoothly, some bar options weren’t stocked yet, and some decorative or utilitarian fixtures were obviously still not in place. But the atmosphere and ambience was very gracious and cool (not just from the very efficient ac unit, either!), very relaxing. Despite the obvious first days expected deficiencies, the staff really hustled to make customers feel like they were very appreciated. The table menu was average; portions were adequate. Nothing really outstanding and rather pricey. My favorite “comparison food” is the fried rice. It was pasty and over soy-sauced, not much flavor other than that. I didn’t get any sushi that night either. The lunch menu looks like a really good deal, though. And the faint whiffs from the hibachi area smelled wonderful! Next time I will definitely go to the hibach- for lunch!

Kung Pao Chicken
Sauce was mediocre, not much kick to it. Texture of the meat was fair. The accompanying fried rice was overly salty, pasty and otherwise tasteless. Portions were pretty good.

Heavy duty eating
Fried and grilled seafood in traditional and creative dishes. Some are very spicy, all are super rich! don’t come if you aren’t really hungry! Sometimes it is a little too salty, but that is what beer is for!
