Starbucks

Starbucks on Taylor

I went with a friend on a Sunday and the place was almost packed with students. I personally don’t like very crowded places and thought it would have been better had there not been so many people. However, the service was fast and friendly. It felt like any other Starbucks…nothing special.

What I ate:

Pretty good but it would have been better if it were hotter and not as watered down.

Just as good as the first time...

My girlfriends and I came here for brunch…and the place was already packed! We had to wait about 20 minutes to get a table, but it was worth the wait.

Very yummy…comes with tomatoes, a huge croissant and smoked salmon (obviously =P). See picture! The croissant tasted like it just came out of the oven, the tomatoes were also very fresh and the smoked salmon was just perfect.

Also very good but a little too cheesy for me…

Contains a lot of ham…very delicious. I highly recommend it.

One of the best I’ve had in a long time…comes with fresh fruits.

Very good but not as good as Macadamia Nut mocha. Comes with whipped cream and crushed peppermint candy on top and a small piece of graham cracker.

Tiny Place, Good Food

The place is tiny…there are only 3-4 small tables inside this restaurant. Service was just all right and kind of slow, too. Make sure you check your receipt before leaving the restaurant b/c they charged me $410 instead of $41, but I think it was a honest mistake and that it wasn’t their intention to charge me 10x more than they were supposed to. So, check the total amount!! However, food was pretty good. The portions are rather big and you will most likely not be able to finish the food in one meal.

It’s got an Indian kick to this dish. It comes with plenty of rice and cabbage/salad. The goat was kind of tough but it tasted pretty good. Slightly on the salty side.

Good tasting chicken but it made me feel like it’s something that I can cook at home with soy sauce +/- other spices/sauces. It comes with 3-4 pieces of chicken that are very tender and tasty.

Never had ackee before and have a rather good impression of it after eating it. It looked like duck liver (but much much brighter…it’s actually yellow) and tasted buttery. Salty fish…a little too salty but goes well with white rice. If I were to order this again in the future, I’d order A LOT of white rice to go with it. It’s worth the try.

This was just all right and didn’t have as much flavor as I had hoped. If you order more than 1 dish, I’d recommend trying this prior to consuming others so you’ll appreciate the taste more. Comes with 4 pieces of chicken and lots of rice and some cabbage/salad.

Wake up to a yummy English muffin

It’s another Starbucks…nothing special in terms of decorations, etc. Rather slow service but good English muffins to try.

I’m not a big fan of English muffins but having had this totally changed my perception of English muffins. It was toasted to perfection and comes with cheese, spinach and eggs. I highly recommend this!

I See Seafood!!

My friend and I were in the mood for some seafood and decided to give this restaurant a try. I really liked their huge colorful wooden sea creatures hanging at the entrance of the restaurant. The place is spacious with an outside dining area. We decided to sit outside (make sure to put on sunscreen) so we can a better view of the Biscayne bay. We were very fortunate to see a dolphin swimming in the water! Too bad I wasn’t able to capture it on my camera before it got away. Anyhow, back to the restaurant…very friendly service, but not exactly fast…I would also recommend those wanting to bring a date here to do so for dinner.

What I ate:

They had quite a bit of seafood for you to enjoy. If you were to try this buffet, I’d highly recommend the following: salmon, mussels, seafood salad. The rest were average to above average. Lunch buffet ends at 4pm. Dinner buffet starts at 4pm and it is $28.99.

Peach Garden

My family and I stayed at the Hilton across the street and decided to give restaurant a try since the only other Chinese restaurant wasn’t open. Just like any typical Chinese restaurant…it looked very Asian and kind of fancy from the outside, but the inside was just OK. Very friendly and fast service.

What I ate:
  • ***

nothing special here…just like any other chow mein with a little bit of seafood, pork, been, chicken and veggies.

  • ****

very good…not too sour nor too sweet. probably the best dish we had that night. it was worth the $$ since they used a lot fish.

  • **

not much taste to this soup. comes with a lot of noodles and soup and very little of everything else.

Pachamamma Restaurant

Feb 23, 2008 Link

Pachamamma Restaurant

A Peruvian restaurant with friendly service. Unique wall hangings put together by pieces of wood throughout the restaurant. The lighting is a little too bright for us. The biggest “problem” here might be the language barrier…our waitress spoke very little English and we had trouble communicating with her. About 80% of the residents in Miami speak Spanish…so be prepared.

What I ate:
  • D-thxa5nmr3ij0aby-jib280x80
    ****

Presentation of the dish wasn’t all that impressive since it looked like a blob of yellow paste next to a pile of rice…but it tasted pretty good. There are shredded pieces of chicken along with potatoes. Come with a bowl of white rice.

  • Cpkl_i5nqr3lpuaby-cnxd80x80
    ****

Once again, presentation not impressive at all…shrimp, mussels, octopus, and scallops embedded in very heavy sauce. Come with a bowl of white rice.

  • Dy6swe5nmr3lpuaby-cnxd80x80

Wasn’t impressed with this dish at all!! My friend highly recommended this dish to me b/c she’s had it in the past and thought it was VERY good…but when I had it, it was VERY sour, salty and spicy! Comes with 5 mussels and a lot of veggies. Mussels themselves were pretty tasteless.

Sushi Siam

Hi"bad"chi

A Japanese restaurant located inside the Aventura Mall. Its decorations are typical of any other Asian restaurants. Friendly and fast service. Plenty of customers when we went but that does not translate into great food! We decided to go for the hibachi and it was a mistake.

What I ate:
  • ***

Comes with a small bowl of white rice, salad, some veggies, some shrimp, and of course, salmon. Everything was grilled to perfection except that the food was tasteless. I guess they didn’t put enough salt on their food. However, my friend went another time before that and the portions were much bigger and the food tastier. Maybe we just got unlucky and got someone who wasn’t as good…

Mediocre Chinese Buffet

This restaurant looks quite impressive from the outside, but the food is just OK. It is pretty nicely decorated inside…there’s a little pond right next to the entrance…kind of typical of asian buffet places, i guess. My friend and I came here for lunch and both of us didn’t think it was all that impressive. I thought the best dish was fish in hunan sauce…everything else was just okay.

Iron Sushi

Pretty Good Sushi

This place probably deserves a 3.5/5. The restaurant itself is really small…there are no more than ten chairs inside, but you can find a seat to dine outside as well. There aren’t much decorations inside the restaurant…however, if you need cash, there’s an ATM right by the entrance. They’ve got friendly service…although our food took a long time to come. Overall, it’s not the best sushi place I’ve been to, but it’s rather affordable.

What I ate:
  • ****

Rather fresh tuna…it comes in about 6 pieces and a small cup of light soy sauce that you can pour over the fish. My friend recommended this to me and both of us thought it was good.

  • ****

The exact description from their website: Eel, Salmon, Cream Ceese, Fried w/Bread Flake. I thought it was pretty good…but a little bit on the salty side. I did taste the eel but not the salmon…i would recommend this if you want hot sushi and wanted to try something different.
