homestyle japanese food and fresh sushi

Matsu is a cozy, family-run restaurant that has never failed in fulfilling my Japanese food craving. I love their hot dishes (oyakodon, tempura, nabeyaki udon) as much as their sushi. Although the presentation is simple, everything is always fresh and very tasty. Great Japanese food at an affordable price!

Dishes I tried:

Sushi and Tempura Combination

The shrimps and vegetables are deep-fried to perfection (not too heavy/greasy) and the freshness of the sushi is evident by looks and taste. It’s a rather large portion, too, so be prepared to leave with a rounded belly.

California Roll

I’ve never had California Rolls like Matsu’s. Somehow, all the ingredients just come together really nicely with the mayo (imitation) crab meat. It literally melts in your mouth.

Nabeyaki Udon

I love this dish on a cold day! Chicken, fish cakes, spinach, and tempura tops this hot noodle dish with a half-cooked, yolk-running egg I like to save for the very end. Don’t forget to drink the broth while it’s hot! Mmm~ Soo good!

Black Sesame Ice Cream

This is the most fragrant ice cream ever! It smells like sesame oil but tastes like rich, creamy black sesame seeds. Give it a try and you’ll know why I want to end every meal with this dessert. =P

fine dining near kirkland's waterfront

Get escargot, french onion soup, pork tenderloin, and chocolate banana crepes (chef’s specialty) all in one place! The restaurant is small and cozy, with knowledgable waitstaff and delicious food. They also have a fixed price menu between 5pm and 6pm where you can get an appetizer, an entree, and dessert for $25. The best part is, you can walk off all the food on the Kirkland waterfront! I’ve come here with family and friends, for new years and birthdays.

Dishes I tried:

Salmon Filet

I admit I’m biased about salmon, but this dish is truly tasty. There’s always fresh sauteed vegetables to go with the perfectly poached, juicy filet of salmon. Yum!

The meat is tender and the portion filling. Like any entree, lotsa veggies to go with the pork tenderloin.

My mom has gotten this dish on multiple occasions and it’s never failed her. I only give it a four-star because I haven’t ordered it for myself.

Chocolate Banana or Chocolate Strawberry Crepe

Not only is the crepe made on-site by the owner/chef, Linh, the chocolate sauce is to die for. Mind you, this isn’t your supermarket Hershey’s sauce. Order one to share. It comes with vanilla ice cream.

cheap, authentic sichuanese food!

If you like Chinese and can handle spicy food, this is the place to go! They have a huge array of menu items to choose from and once you order, the dishes come out steaming hot and flavorful. Don’t be surprised by the huge portions and the low price. It’s meant to be a feast with family and friends. =) I guarantee you’ll walk out full with enough leftovers to last you another meal!

Dishes I tried:

Kung Pao Chicken

Unlike other Chinese restaurants, their kung pow is a little spicy and sour. You also won’t feel weiged down with the refreshing crunch of peanuts and stir-fried cabbage bits.
