Poor Customer Service

At my work, we have used Toomy’s Catering and I was excited to use them for my own family reunion. I had arranged the menu and details and thought that everything would be fine as Tommy’s had always been reliable. My family were staying at an Apartment Hotel so there was a fridge and full kitchen in all the suites. The food was delivered on time and that is about all the service that I received. While the African favoured chicken and the green salad were very good, the other two salads were not fresh. They also forgot plates, napkins, plastic cutlery which I paid extra for. The roasted potato salad tasted like the potates were roasted a week ago and the “spicy” bean salad was not at all spicy and the beans were tough and chewy. I paid over $550.00 for chicken, grren salad and some pastries. When I complained, they said that it was not stored properly. They delivered and stored as we were all out for the day. They said that each person has a different palate but when all my family did not eat either the potato or bean salad, I would say that there was something wrong. I was not happy when the Catering Manager promised a $50 adjustment for my inconvenience – this was the cost that they charged for the disposible plates. In the end, they charged me full price and all I have to rely on is to let others know about my experience. Good luck to you all who use Tommy’s Catering in North Vancouver!

Fun, noisy & great food

Although El Barrio was the location for the kick off for the International Burlesque Festival in Vancouver, the food was wonderful. Service was helpful and prompt. We had a variety of dishes and each was tasty and just the right amount of spice. It was not the most luxurious of spots but besides the loud band, it was cheerful. The sangria could have been a little more tasty but the food made up for that.

An unusual spot for a restaurant but it seems that there are some other developments in the neighbourhood. This is close to my favourite grocery as well.

Dishes I tried:

Chicken Burritos

Choice of sauces. Mole was suggested and this was wonderful. The sides were as yummy as the burritos. It was served hot and looked appetizing.

Not impressed

The website states “traditional French and Italian food…. creative” – not so much. I started with Onion Soup Gratinee and then roasted herb chicken and a green salad. My spouse had the crab cake and a spicy pasta dish. The pasta was the only creative and interesting dish as the accompaniments for my chicken were unimaginative carrots and cabbage and the chicken was overcooked. Dinner for two with a half liter of wine was over $100.00. No dessert or coffee. The service was all right but it felt like you were eating in a cafe in strip mall facing the parking lot with a television in the background. I can understand casual elegance but this was mall old school dated food. I chatted with other friends who loved the food but I was not so impressed.
