Satisfies cravings...
Dishes I tried:
Pad Thai with Chicken and Shrimp
Noodles looked pale and not very appetizing. The complex flavors of the dish was replaced by a sweet-tangy sauce that served to remind one that the dish was supposed to be pad thai, not actually letting you fully believe it. No crushed peanuts sprinkled on top, no wedge of lime on the side, no sprinkling of chili powder for that extra heat.
Curries
Curries are pretty good, a little on the watery side. The reds and yellows are better than the greens.
Tofu in Chili and Basil Sauce
Other than the sauce in this dish tasting a lot like the other sauces, this is a good dish. It is pleasantly spicy and basily. Again, the sauce is a little on the thin side, but its great for pouring over a bowl of rice!
Sashimi
Generally hit or miss or miss greatly. I stick with the rolls. I’ve never had sashimi that made be sick here, but just didn’t taste great.

Good food, better sake
Morimoto does not disappoint. Who else would have thought guacamole and sour cream go well with tuna tartare? Try the sparkling sake and Morimoto’s own sakes. Omakase menu is a good choice. Each dish was beautifully and creatively presented. Sashimi was great. Service was friendly, but forgetful at times.
Dishes I tried:
Kobe beef tartare
Sauce and cut were excellent, just barely overcooked for my taste.
Omakase
Chef’s selection of 9 courses. You can’t go wrong, courses are well chosen to cover the menu, presentation is creative.

Disappointing
On an island with so many Vietnamese places, I’d read good reviews about this chain, but was sorely disappointed. I think quality varies from branch to branch, so I’d be willing to give another location a try. Basically the overall impression of the food I got was lifeless, stale – the kind of food I expect from a fast food place.
Dishes I tried:
Summer rolls
Shrimp, rice noodles, lettuce, and basil wrapped in rice paper served with peanut sauce. The sauce was too thick, it has a jelly consistency. The rolls didn’t have much taste, the herbs were flat – the roll itself just was not appetizing. It seemed a little stale.
BBQ pork sandwich
I tried this with the croissant roll instead of the baguette (they ran out). The crossiant did not give the same texture that I think a Vietnamese sandwich should have, no crispy crust, the butter in the croissant just didn’t go with the rest of the sandwich. The pickled vegetables were not crunchy and also lacked flavor. The pork also lacked flavor. They also put too much of a mayonnaise type spread on the sandwich, might have been ok with a baguette, but too much for the richer croissant.

Great happy hour beers!
Casual beach bar feel without the view (or the sand). $2 beer (pints!) happy hours on Thursdays after 6pm. Other great specials the other nights of the week. Service was good.
Dishes I tried:
Wings
Full wings, including the tips. I really like their wings, it was just spicy enough to not burn the tongue, but really, with $2 beers, that problem could easily be solved.
Bacon blue cheese burger
The burgers are made well done. I prefer mine on the medium rare side. I don’t think preferences were asked of anyone at the table. The burger is not ‘wow’ but its definitely good and satisfies cravings for burgers.
Chili cheese fries
Cheese and deep fried potatoes… can’t really go wrong, but these were really good.

Indulge yourself
Walking into Mrs London’s, it’s pretty much given that you’ll surrender to whatever pastry/dessert they have in their display case… I was excited to find this cafe in downtown Saratoga. It sorta reminds me of Le Boulangerie in San Francisco. They have beautiful and yummy desserts, French pastries, bread, and some sandwiches.
Dishes I tried:
Canneles
Since first stumbling upon these custardy, crispy but chewy French pastries at Le Boulangerie, I’ve been obsessed with them (and proud to have spread that obsession too). Mrs. London’s has a good version of these, available on weekends during the year and sometimes weekdays during track. The carmelized burnt outside contrasts with the chewy inside. Its not overwhelming sweet or eggy like some custards can be.
Brittany
Sugar and butter. Need I say any more?
Hot Chocolate
Like drinking a bar of melted chocolate. It’s very rich, great on a cold snowy day, but I think they give too much. The richness is amazing for the first quarter of the drink, then it becomes overwhelming. Good for sharing or dipping biscotti!

French food in upstate New York?
When I visited Chez Sophie, they hadn’t moved to their current location in the hotel. I had my doubts about a French restaurant located in a stainless steel diner in upstate New York, and not even in downtown Saratoga (back then). I shouldn’t have worried. It came recommended by a lady who spent 6 months of the year in Paris, it was the only French restaurant she would eat at here. I went with a large group. Everything was perfect. I remember pheasant, duck, and lamb being standouts. There are even cartoons on laminated cards that were drawn by the owners and passed out to us throughout dinner. They were funny and a little risque! There is a family owned feel to Chez Sophie.

Cozy, friendly with great food.
I saw the chef/owner of The Little Owl winning a Thanksgiving challenge on TV and the next day he was in my Food and Wine magazine.. I decided it was fate telling me to eat at this restaurant. The restaurant is small (28 seats) but really cozy, with an interesting stacking of alcohol in a corner. Our waitress was knowledgeable about the menu and offered helpful opnions on the selections. I would have missed out on ‘meatball sliders’ if not for her!
Dishes I tried:
Meatball Sliders
The gourmet whitecastle burger. Great spices and texture of ‘patty’.
Pork chop with parmesan butter beans and wild dandelion
Perfectly cooked, tender pork chop with amazing flavor in the sauce. Huge ‘hunk’ of meat but every bite was enjoyable.
Roasted snapper with mashed potatoes and lemon creme fraiche
Fish fillets were well cooked but didn’t have the ‘WOW!’ of the 2 other dishes. Great fish dish though.

Pizza in a Fancy Restaurant?
This busy Italian restaurant tucked away in the middle of nowhere (at least it seemed that way for first time visitors) had the best pizza I’ve had in my life. Close to the best steak too. We waited for seat at the bar, well worth the 2 glasses of wine wait. Bartender was friendly, had great wine recommendations. Had the familiar feel of a local restaurant coupled with amazing food.
Dishes I tried:
Spicy Pizza
Perfectly crisp thin crust pizza with tomatoes, cheese, and scallion topping. And a kick of spice!
Dirty Steak
Steak cooked perfectly right on charcoal.

09/24/2009We just ate there Friday and were terribly disappointed. Expensive ($11 for Pad Thai?) and, despite the apparently Thai staff, incredibly bland thai food. You know you’re in trouble when the pad thai noodles are white instead of brown. More like a sweet spaghetti with soy sauce than pad thai. My brother’s curry was also very very bland, and third diner’s sushi was small and average. I don’t know if we just had bad luck but what we did have was not at all the culinary experience that the rest of these reviewers describe.
