Fine Hawaiian Diner
I wouldn’t exactly call King’s Hawaiian a nice restaurant, but it definitely feels nicer than a normal American diner. The front has a bakery that sells the breads and cakes they’re known for (if you’re not familiar, go to a supermarket and look for King’s Hawaiian dinner rolls) and the back has a diner that makes you feel like you’re in a diner in Hawaii (maybe a bit nicer, but the Hawaiian feel is there).
The cuisine is distinctly Hawaiian – a blend of Korean bbq, Japanese home cooking, and potato/macaroni salad (yum). The food is on par with my expectations and price range. The best part is getting some guava/passion fruit cake and breads to go.
Dishes I tried:
BBQ Kalua Pork Sandwich
The sandwich was served on the super soft King’s Hawaiian bread. The pork was really tender and it was topped with a giant onion ring that also served to keep the soft pork from falling out of the sandwich since it was the exact same circumference of the bread. It was actually pretty good and I’d order it again. Get it with the potato/macaroni salad.
Chicken Lettuce Wraps
The lettuce was actually pretty decent quality – the thick dark green variety. But the chick was sort of bland. Maybe I’m just not a fan of chicken lettuce wraps.
Spam Musubi
Spam, rice and seaweed. Spam slices needed to be bigger since the spam flavor didn’t come through as much as I’d like.

10/05/2009I love poppyseed dressing It does make a good fresh salad outstanding. It’s really hard to find a good salad in Hamilton, ON Canada. Probably one of the best I’ve eaten is the jerk chicken salad at Ya Man!. It would be good minus the featured jerk chicken (which is ace).
