Hidden Gem!
The best sushi I’ve had in the East Side and downtown by far. The owner is dressed in traditional Japanese men’s kimono for cooking paired with his wooden sandles behind the counter. He cooks with smiles that exudes his passion for the craft while preparing your kappo style (cooked intricate dishes) plates. It’s not your Hollywood/club sushi place, it’s hard-core Japanese sushi/kappo and not intended for those used to eating spicy tuna rolls or spider, dynamite rolls and washing it down with a sake bomb. The tasting menu/omakase is what I recommend if you have the budget for it $85/per person. Everything is seasonal. This menu has both cooked dishes of the season and sushi and finished with ice cream.
Dishes I tried:
uni without nori
The best uni I’ve had in years! plump and firm, creamy and sweet, so fresh, he prepares it without the nori to showcase its delicate flesh.

Tasty Izakaya in downtown
Simple, down to earth, place to go for Japanese comfort food in downtown/eastside. Great place to get variety of small plates of all sorts ranging from fried oysters, simple rolls, fried chicken, nabeyaki udon, fried skewers (camerbert, etc), grilled mackeral, potato salad, and other typical izakaya dishes. Daily specials on the board are tasty and seasonal. Open late and cheap. Great crowd, great drinks. Different vibe from Izayoi which is more for older adult crowd. Can go alone and sit at the counter or get your group a table. They don’t take reservations.
Dishes I tried:
Fried Oysters & Camerbert Cheese Skewer
Tasty, definite must have for us. Pretty decadent though in the calories

If I could afford to eat here everyday, I would...
Have to say this is my favorite restaurant right now, yes its a little on the high end, fine dining, lots of suits and ties, silky dresses and a check to reflect but I think the meal is well worth it. Seafood, French inspired cuisine, fresh seafood, beautiful presentation, perfect portions (for me), scallops cooked to perfection, unusual and delicious cocktails, great service and amazing dessert. I would recommend going just for the cheese plate and amazing dessert paired with a nice glass of port if you want to get your feet wet before the dive to the whole experience. But if you can, I would get the tasting menu. It’s a special occasion place.

The way to go to get the whole experience at Providence. It’ll be a meal that you’ll definitely have something to talk about at dinner parties…
