Guan has Incredible food, atmosphere & service

Guan Restaurant (www.guanrestaurant.com), formerly called Nine Fish, is located in a strip mall, but the food, decor and service absolutely transcend this out-of-the-way location.

Chef Guan Chen is a master, especially with seafood. His sushi is the freshest you’ll find, and he pairs it with unusual ingredients, like truffle oil, sea salt and fruit. Guan’s sashimi and his rolls are exceptional and delicious, and he loves to treat his regular customers (we have become regulars) with extravagant amuse-bouche that surprise and delight the palate, like abalone in oyster sauce or “o” toro sushi brushed with truffle oil, pink sea salt and wrapped in a crunchy sesame leaf.

Folks who prefer more standard Pan Asian dishes will not be disappointed, as Guan offers his own twist on traditional dishes like Peking Duck, Mongolian Beef or Whole Red Snapper with Basil sauce. The menu truly has something for everyone – lamb, monkfish, beef tenderloin, salmon, bass, yellowtail – with a focus on the freshest ingredients in season. And the portions are generous.

The atmosphere in the restaurant is very convivial and relaxed, and the service is excellent. All the food is served piping hot. You’re never rushed, but rather encouraged to linger and enjoy the experience.

Perfectly crisp skin, tender, smoky meat in a lovely and very edible presentation sliced inside a tortilla shell and attended by scallions and bonita plum sauce.

Red Curry seafood

Large chunks of fresh fish, scallops and shrimp, along with Japanese squash, are dressed in this unusually rich, thick red curry bursting with flavor (instead of burning you with red chillies, like most places make it.)
