Longmont's best

We’ve had many different breakfast and lunch dishes here; all great so far! Salads (esp the Caesar) terrifict, the best hamburger in town, really unusually good staples like the BLT. They use unexpectedly tasty ingredients in some ubiquitous dishes that make for pleasant surprises. Everything is always very fresh as well, nothing frozen or prepared ahead. Fun atmosphere, friendly staff.

Organic beef, actually prepared “to order”, not “however overdone it comes off the grill.” Typical of the dishes there — done exactly right, really fresh beef on a fresh bun with crisp, tasty toppings. The menu here doesn’t reinvent the wheel, it’s just executed really, really well.

Good, basic Vietnamese food!

From the decor to the menu offerings this is not a fancy place but the menu contains what you would expect and the food is reliable and consistently good. Pho is good but a bit heavy on onion (that’s good or bad depending on your taste). Noodle bowls are all very good, the grilled food in the noodle bowls is tasty! Vietnamese egg rolls are yummy. They deliver very reliably if you are fortunate to live close enough…I think their radius is 3 miles. Nice people running the place, too.

Solely Disappointing

The meal started off on the wrong foot, and just never seemed to regain its footing…

I was eating alone so I sat at the bar…asked for a beer to begin with, and was served a Stella Artois as flat as tapwater. After I pointed it out to the bartender (shouldn’t he have noticed when he poured it?) he was nice enough to take it back and bring me a bottled beer from their limited selection. A few minutes later, a manager came along and removed half of the taps…they must have been having some problems.

The pancetta-wrapped scallops appetizer was one (1) scallop wrapped with a scrawny slice of American-style bacon. For $12.95. I was hungry, so I ate it and moved on to a steak for the main course.

The NY Strip steak was OK — had more gristle than a nice steak should usually have, but it was certainly the high point of the meal.

“Pancetta” by Oscar Meyer wrapped around one lonely little bay scallop. Disappointing on several levels, but I ate it anyway.

OK. The steak had a bit of gristle, but it was thick, flavorful, and cooked properly. The whipped potatoes were good. The asparagus spears were overcooked.

Excellent calamari! Not fried excessively…very tender, served just right. Breading was very light, allowed the flavor of the squid to come through.

Good marsala. The chicken medallions were tender, cooked properly. The marsala sauce was not overly-sweet as it can so often bee. Served with very good mashed potatoes…good comfort food dinner.
