Mandoo is Korean for “dumplings” and is also one of my top spots in K-town.
Prompt service though if you are idle in the restaurant they shoo you somewhat politely. Occupancy is decent although you may find a line in the evenings.
I forgot to mention that you will see a pair or trio of older Korean women rolling and pressing the dumplings in the front window.
Must haves:
Goon Mandoo – lightly pan fried pork dumplings – juicy inside and for me does not need any sauce
- also offered in seafood and vegetable/boiled or fried
Japchae – clear sweet potato noodles
Mandoo Ramen

Highly recommended – open late night. Very cute retro interior and bar style seating. The personnel are friendly and the service is speedy.
I ordered the Spiced Shrimp Popcorn with cilantro mayo --- so good!. Shrimp is sprinkled with Indian spices making them look neon orange.

Hip and the ‘it’ kind of place to be for a meal any time of the day! In the back you will be entertained by live concert videos of the hottest pop stars.
Great atmosphere, mostly young folks gabbing and snacking. The bathrooms are a must to visit. Each room plays the music of a pop icon as you relieve yourself.
The food is Americana with a smattering of Thai and Vegetarian delights.
I ordered an amazing fried butterfly shrimp covered acai cream! I would steer away from the tofu dumpling – the texture was rubbery and the combination of veggies was not complimentary.
Wait staff are bubbly and all smiles!

Came across this place a few years ago and always looking forward to another return.
Cafe Asean is a quaint, rustic inspired South Asian eatery. I usually stick with the appetizers, which is much easier to share with friends. It is akin to South Asian dim sum…..
My ultimate favorite appetizers are:
Ghaw Chee (steamed shrimp and chives dumpling)
Chien Dai (shrimp crab meat and peas dumpling)
Satay (chicken or pork)
Ped Muan – if they have it (roast duck)
I would take heed with the Cha Gio Ca (salmon spring roll) – salmon tends to be on the dry side.
Treat yourself to the sheltered outdoor garden – a real bonus to the meal.

Though the outside of the restaurant is an eye sore – the dining experience was the opposite! Very cute space – two booths in the front (enough space for a stroller) and the main dining area was a little cramped but the food made up for it.
The first items listed are an array of yakitori – I ordered: garlic, pork liver, scallops, shrimp and ginko beans (?). Reasonably priced and a great starter!
The restaurant filled quickly and the service slowed a bit. But I would go back in a heart beat!

Rigoletto offers JUMBO pizza slices that are a meal on their own. They are a quarter sized slice with fixins if so desired (garlic, parm, pepper flakes basil). the price is decent, i paid $4.50 for a slice with sausage. You can request regular sized slices also…..
Open until 3-4am this place is a great tummy filler for after hours munchies!
Oh yeah, the seating area leaves little to be desired but it is fast food!
And be sure to leave a tip because the pizza guys work their butts off!

After moving to UWS from UES I felt hopeless because of the unfamiliarity of our new neighborhood. It took me 5 months to find a decent chinese restaurant such as Columbia Cottage.
I am a dumpling girl so I have to say, the Szechuan dumpling with hot oil sauce, shrimp dumplings and shanghai dumplings are all the best I can find on the UWS so far……
