Trendy new spot in downtown Waukesha

First thing to know if you are coming on a Fri or Sat night, there is always a crowd and a wait. This is a very popular spot.
They offer mainly salads/sandwiches but though the menu is not extensive, all of the dishes I’ve tried have been delicious.
I definitely recommend upgrading for the sweet potato fries.
The service is good here both the bar and wait staff.
The reason I did not rate them higher is not really because of their food. I think they try to cram too many people into a really small space and there is really no where to wait if its a busy night and the bar is full.
There was one other weird thing where the staff was going in/out a side door to a ‘back room’ for silverware and supplies. Since I was sitting near that door, it was irritating every time the door opened and let in the cold. Not to mention the distraction of people constantly coming and going.
My suggestion is to try People’s on a weeknight or for lunch and you will probably like it a lot more.

Quick service for a Saturday

Compared to some of the other popular Mexican restaurants in this area, we had a group of 6 people on a Saturday night yet we did not have to wait for a table!
Their margaritas are really strong so be prepared. But they have a great variety of different flavors both blended and on the rocks. All of the ones I’ve tried were yummy.
We had chips and salsa at our table within minutes of being seated and they were regularly refilled as needed.
The waiter was attentive and passed by often.
I ordered the carne asada tacos and they were very good.
Between the good service and the good food plus the very short wait, I’d recommend Botanas over some of the other competition in the area.

Good Stir Fry, great service

I took a group of 15 people to this restaurant to give it a try. Its similar to other stir fry concept places in the area like BD Mongolian or Stir Crazy.

They do put a little bit of a different spin on it by offering some unique free options like lettuce wraps and a type of fry bread. The coolest feature was that they had staff help mix sauce combinations and gave us little sample cups so we could taste the sauces we mixed before going to the grill.

Several people in the group did try the moo shu preparation (another free option) and said it was pretty dry as they didn’t have add extra sauce to the pancake.

What really stood out was their service and customer focus. I had pre-arranged to have group pricing with a minimum of 20 people. We did not make the minimum and so we expected to just pay menu pricing. The managers offered us the group discount even though they did not have to.

I would definitely recommend you try this restaurant!

Good Mexican food

I have eaten at La Estacion several times. During the Summer, they have a large outdoor patio which is really nice.
You can also eat in the authentic train cars if its not too busy. I think that adds to the dining experience.
Their margaritas are good and huge. Their homemade chips are usually fresh and hot and addicting.
Bring a big appetite if you come here, most of their portions are large and dinners include rice & beans. The food is so good that I often find it hard to stop eating!
Some of their special items are interesting like recently I tried their mahi fish tacos.
They also offer a Friday Fish Fry and Sunday Brunch.
The restaurant has 3 parking lots so you can generally park within a block—rare for Downtown Waukesha.

Interesting menu, nice ambiance

I’ve eaten at Maxie’s twice now, both times with a group of 6+. Its always crowded so you need a reservation. The nice thing is there is a decent sized free parking lot just across the street and also street parking.
One of the best things about Maxie’s is their interesting specials menu. Each time I’ve been there for dinner their specials have been extensive as well as somewhat exotic.
One night they had skate on the menu. I didn’t even know what it was LOL! Someone in my party ordered it and it was very tasty.
Be sure to try the sweet potato fries with the creme fraiche. Their traditional Southern recipes like jambalaya and gumbo are very good as well.
They also often have drink specials/happy hour and you can have appetizers and drinks at the bar.
The service was good although they are quite busy so you may have to wait for a table even with a reservation.

Great lunch buffet, good selection

This lunch buffet is different from other chinese buffets simply for the extensive variety of dishes they offer. You can get 3-4 different kinds of soup; fried or white rice or lo mein noodles. They also have typical appetizer items like egg rolls and crab rangoons. Plus your standard buffet entrees like sweet & sour chicken, beef w/broccoli, and egg foo yung. Finally they have some unique dishes like chicken w/green beans, sauteed mushrooms, and General Tso’s chicken.
The other nice thing about this buffet is they have dessert—soft serve ice cream and almond cookies—as well as a small salad and fruit selection.
I have also eaten dinner at Peking House ordering off the menu and the food was still excellent.

Their version is not overly breaded and has just the right amount of flavor and spice.
The best part is they offer this normally at the lunch buffet too!

Awesome coffee and food

I go to the Steaming Cup at least once a week for coffee or food or both. I’ve tried quite a few of the items on their coffee menu as well as food and have never been disappointed.
Even the small things like their biscotti and baked goods are always fresh and delicious.
Some of my favorite items are the noodle wrap and the trail mix. The thai wrap is also delicious but messy.
No matter how long of a line or how busy they are, the staff are always friendly and give service with a smile. One of the barristas/employees actually remembers me and my “regular” coffee drink. Its a really nice touch on top of great coffee and food.
Many weekends they also offer live music on Fri/Sat nights.
Its a great casual location with good prices and a comfortable down home feel.

Just OK

First disappointment is they do not take reservations for any size. I organize group meals 1-2X a month and so that is a real drawback. I took a risk and brought a group of 6 and we picked a weeknight hoping to avoid a long wait. We ended up waiting about 20 minutes.
I had a oriental chicken salad and the ingredients were fresh but the dish lacked flavor.
One person ordered orange chicken and was quite surprised to find it almost too spicy to eat. All of us agreed the food was good but not great.
One thing they did offer which I appreciated was half size orders…great if you are trying to control portions. And the servers were attentive.
Right now there is a lot of novelty because this location is pretty new. If you like mainstream Asian dishes like sesame or orange chicken and/or stir fry and have time to kill, you should try Stir Crazy.

Nice brunch

I heard about the brunch through some friends. They call it small plate dining because the portions are about 1/2 normal size. I typically dislike brunches because they are buffet style, but this concept was much better while still offering all you could eat.
I highly recommend you make a reservation as the day that I went they were completely booked and turning people away.
They also offer free parking and a shuttle to major attractions nearby. Not only can you eat some great food but also save if you are going to a festival at the Summerfest grounds.
The great part about the Envoy’s brunch is that you can choose 2-3 totally different selections and still not feel like you ate too much.
Be sure to check out the hotel lobby its really neat.

Great Patio, awesome bar food

I went to this restaurant after the gym intending to have just a drink. But their excellent selection of burgers with the added bonus of substituting a turkey or veggie burger…changed my mind. I had the oriental turkey burger and wow the wasabi mayo was really fantastic.
We were able to get a table on the patio which overlooks the mall and I recommend giving that a try, its a great view.
I was impressed with the variety on the menu and the friendly service from the hostess and the server.
They also offered trivia in the bar every Wed. night.
Its not fine dining but it exceeded my expectations for ‘bar’ fare.
I’ll be going back to check out their Sunday brunch in a couple weeks. Great food and environment for a moderate price.
