tastes like grandma's cooking
this place is probably the best Russian restaurant in los angeles. the food is so fresh and so familiar that it feels as though my grandmother is in that kitchen cooking the food.
the restaurant is very quaint and nicely decorated. the wait staff knows the food so thats always good. definitely start with the traditional cucumber and tomato salad. if you like borscht, its supposed to be really great here. i love the potato dumplings and the vareniki dumplings which have meat inside with a little sour cream and butter over the dumplings.
if you want a good, traditional Russian meal like they serve at Russian households, you need to try this place – its fantastic!
Dishes I tried:
potato dumplings
they taste so fresh and homemade.. super super good.

I am not at all biased, being that my friend’s dad owns the place, but this place is reasonably priced and very fresh. the food is good, the ingredients are always fresh and the atmosphere is perfect for people watching.
dont leave without trying the dessert pizza… thin sweet dough baked perfectly with nutella and strawberries…. O-M-G

I will have to give it another try
I have heard sooo many good things about this place, so I was really excited to try it. If you are looking for your regular americanized sushi, stay away.. this place is all traditional and they specialize in Japanese cuisine, not “sushi”
the food was good.. but it was the attitudes of the waitresses that left a bad taste in my mouth. They think they are more important than the chefs. Don’t try to ask for extra sauce.. oh no. they will straight up say NO. basically, the customer is NOT right in this place..

birthday party savior
i had originally planned to buy cupcakes from sprinkles for my brothers birthday but i was running late and didnt have time to make it to the city, so i walked into the Big Sugar Bakeshop hoping their cupcakes would be as good.. well let me tell you.. i think they are BETTER than sprinkles, and i am a HUGE sprinkles fan – was..
they are smaller, which is good for portion control! but they are TASTY and not at allll dry. I bought them out this nice and they were a hit at the party!

trust me!
so after years and years of wanting to try out the “sushi nazi” and see what he is so famous for, we finally made our way in. the restaurant is TINY! it is very plain – reminds me of a pizza parlor with the typical red chairs, plain tables, plain plain plain tablewear, etc. we arrived pretty late, around 9:15pm (the place closes at 10pm and is not open weekends) and there was no one there.. we sat down and proceeded with the “TRUST ME”
the chef sent over tuna sashimi in ponzu sauce, albacore, toro sushi, yellowtail, halibut, blue crab handrolls, toro handrolls, freshwater eel.. everything was reallly reallly really good. i can definitely say that i am now completely spoiled. the fish was amazing and the rice was soft and warm. i guess when i heard all the “trust me” stuff from other people, i thought that chef nozawa would give us more exotic sushi.. but instead it was just good cuts and quality of the regular stuff i order anyway. i would definitely return!
