Nori is a brand new sushi/sashimi place opened in November 2007 right on 2nd Avenue just south of St. Mark’s. We ate there last night after reading some rave reviews on Yelp, and we were not disappointed. First off, the service was excellent – our waitress Cecilia was very attentive and friendly, explained everything carefully, and another man (I think possibly the owner) also came over to make sure we were having a good meal.
The sushi and sashimi (we ordered the omakase) was impeccable. We were told that they get their fish from the same suppliers as Blue Ribbon and Nobu, and the quality was apparent. Much of it was so good that I didn’t use any soy sauce or seasoning at at all. In addition to the usual standbys, the selection included a wonderful fresh abalone they had just gotten in, as well as a duck sushi (yummy!) and a beef sushi.
All in all, a great dining experience and highly recommended.
PS – They don’t have a liquor license yet, so it’s BYOB. But they were terrific about chilling and serving our sake, and always keeping our glasses full!

Nice ambience – laid back, but hip, with nicely designed decor and a cute garden out back. The food was delicious and delicate in its presentation, though I would not go there if you’re really hungry since portions are on the small side. The one downside was service — we waited forever and finally had to go over to the counter and inform the hostess that we wanted to order food before someone finally came over to take our order. But other than that one shortcoming, it was an enjoyable dining experience.

A nice place for brunch, and also for dinner and/or drinks on a weekend evening… they often have live music or open mics, and they have very yummy mixed dessert drinks (including some that are basically milkshakes with alcohol.) Tends to be quieter in the evenings. The main downside I’ve found is service isn’t always reliable. The food is pretty good, if not stellar.

I had a lovely meal at this lovely restaurant, which is in a converted brownstone in the middle of a tree-lined street in Park Slope. The ambiance is warm and laid back, and service was very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious – uniquely prepared, nicely presented. We had a prix-fixe for $25 that included an appetizer, entree, and dessert. Overall, a great dining experience, highly recommended.
