ninathomas "Love exceptional food and great service."

I have yet to find a type of food I don’t like. I tend to eat a LOT of sushi (when I can afford it) and love to explore new places and flavors.

Great Food, Fun Show

Benihana-like Teppan steakhouse that offers entrees and combination dinners at a more affordable prices. The show is great – the chef made a volcano out of onions and lit it afire, cracked an egg and tossed the shells into his hat, along with the tails from the shrimps… the same tricks you see at every teppan steakhouse. Everyone at the table enjoyed their food.
This is a Korean-owed place, so the bar offers Soju – Korean vodka. The bartender made a special lemony soju drink for me that wasn’t on the menu. It was yummy, but strong.

This came with a shrimp appetizer, salad, and rice. The meats were flavorful and the steak was prepared rare as requested. The scallops melted in my mouth. Most people at the table got fried rice and enjoyed it, but I prefer steamed white rice, so that’s what I got. Portion was healthy enough that I had lunch for the next day.

Always Great Food, Great Service

I love Mimi’s! No matter which one I patronize, I am always satisfied with the food and the service. We’ve been to this particular Mimi’s a number of times, as it’s right around the corner from our house, and have been happy with everything.

Last night we arrived at about 10 pm. We were seated promptly. No surprise, there were only 2-3 other tables being used. Although, I did notice that serveral tables had yet to be cleared – a little pet peeve of mine. (Dirty tables make a restaurant look like they aren’t prompt.)

Apparently it was happy hour, so the waitress offered us beers for $1 off and wine for $2 off.

Both my husband and I ordered from the Back to School Menu, which includes a starter, a Just Right Entree, and a dessert for $12.95. You can also add a soda, lemonade, or iced tea for just $1 with this menu. This special menu only lasts till Sept 30.

I ordered the French Onion Soup as my starter, the Salmon Hollandaise with Asparagus for my entree, and the petite chocolate mousse for my dessert (my husband ordered the petite apple crisp for his dessert, we intended to share). My husband got the same starter, but a 1/2 rack baby back ribs for the entree. We also split a side salad, since we were really hungry. Both of us ate most of our food and were too stuffed for dessert, so we took it to-go.

The waitress had a little snafoo with the register and accidentally charged us for an additional Back to School dinner ($12.95), but was quick to correct the error when it was brought to her attention.
Overall, we were satisfied with our dinner, as expected.

This special menu item came with a starter (I got French Onion Soup, which I will discuss separately), and a dessert (which I have yet to eat, since I was too stuffed to eat it last night).

The salmon was cooked perfectly. The hollandaise had a mild lemon flavor and was creamy with butter, not too rich, though. The baby asparagus was grilled to perfection, still crisp and flavorful, with just a hint of seasoning (salt and pepper) to enhance the taste.

The asparagus lay atop a mountain of delicately seasoned mashed potatoes whipped up nicely. They gave me good memories of mom’s homemade mashed potatoes but not as heavy.

This dish is always a slam dunk! I noticed the low-calorie menu now offers a “naked” option for this soup which serves it without the cheese or bread. I figure if I’m going it eat it, I want to savor all of the cheesy goodness along with the flavorful onion-infused beef broth. I also like the crunch of the toasted bread along with the soup. I had the full-calorie version and enjoyed every spoonful!

A great deal, this dish off of a special menu came with a starter (my husband order the French Onion Soup) and dessert (he ordered the petite Apple Crisp). The soup was fabulous as always. The entree was disappointing. The ribs were well cooked and tender, but the sauce was overly sweet and lacked the balance of sweet and savory one looks for in a good bbq sauce. This is my opinion, my husband (who has the palate of a dog) liked the bbq sauce. The ribs were served with cole slaw and french fries. My husband was so unimpressed with the cole slaw, he didn’t even eat it. He did however eat all of his fries. (Its hard to mess up fries, but these were sufficiently crispy and had some flavor to boot.) Luckily, this was his plate and not mine, or the overall review would have looked a lot different.

Fabulous Place to Relax

Food and service were great!
Friendly atmosphere. Very laid back. Both times I visited, we sat and talked for hours. The staff kept out coffee and water glasses full the whole time, with a smile. Coffee is great, scones were wonderful and not too dry. Goat cheese mushroom dish with polenta was yummmy! Water had cucumber in it (I love that)!

Affordable Happy Hour, Disappointing Food

Service was good, considering we had a big group in the bar area and it was happy hour. Drinks (Long Island Iced Tea & Rum and Coke with Lime) were good & of acceptable strength. Food was disappointing. See below for my review of the Spring Rolls. Dessert was pretty good, however.

I had the Vietnamese Spring Rolls and they were bland and the wrappers were pretty dry in places. The spring rolls came with a spicy penut sauce that was pretty good, so I just dunked every bite. There was another sauce, a too sweet pesto-type sauce that I found to be disgusting. Each roll had 1 smallish, flavorless shrimp sliced in half. At least it was only $3.95 since it was happy hour.

It was a creme brulee cooked atop a chocolate cookie crust surrounded by a citrus-raspberry gel topped with whipped creme and lavender sprinkles. This dish was pretty good, but I prefered it without the chocolate crust.

Favorite Affordable Sushi

Great service and even better food is what keeps us coming back. This smallish hole-in-the-wall is clean and well kept. The sign outside always says 30% off sushi, but I have yet to figure out what is discounted and how they give you the discount. The food is totally reasonable and of good value. The sushi fish always tastes fresh and is prepared and brought quickly. The same few people are always working. They are always happy to greet patrons and wait patiently while people hem and haw over the vast number of menu items. We always get the same things because they are great – the teriyaki lunch special, a red dragon roll, and a spicy tuna handroll (my staple food).

The tipping situation is a little different here. You pay at the register as you order, you get your own drinks and refills from a fountain machine, but they bring you the food. It’s kinda like Sizzler in that respect. It’s not like you have check to pay at the end to figure a 20% tip on. So, everyone just leave a couple of bucks on the table for the servers.

Really Expensive Food that is Worth Every Penny

With a sleek, modern, upscale feel, this restaurant, located in the Bellagio Hotel on the Vegas Strip, fits all the glamor and polish expected of a restaurant in one of the hottest hotels on the strip. We had a nice dinner near Valentine’s Day and finished off the night watching Cirque du Sole’s ‘O.’ We spent about $200 on dinner and my spend-thrifty husband said (and I quote), “that dinner was worth every penny!” The food was amazing. It was like an adventure unto itself. Each dish was served on a creative dish and plated like a masterpiece. Everything tasted fabulous and was full of unique flavor combinations that we never expected but really appreciated.

The service is extremely attentive, the least one would expect for such a high priced place.

Great Food, Fun Atmosphere

Went forMother’s Day. They opened a little early for us and another family that showed up just before opening time.
Shogun is a Teppan steakhouse with the whole show usually found at that type of restaurant. They add lights and sound effects to the show, but its a bit cheese. The traditional onion volcanoe is made then they turn off the overhead light, turn on a strobe and a train whistle. The service was fast and attentive – water glasses were kept full and the server was always ready with the next thing. I had a drink called The Castle made with Rum, brandy, peach schnapps, grenadine, pineapple juice & sweet and sour blended till it’s the color of Japanese sunrise. It was served in a white pagoda shaped glass that I got to keep.

Served with Clear Onion Soup or Salad with Ginger Dressing, Hibachi Mix Vegetables and two Signature Dipping Sauces (one creamy, one zesty).
I had the salad. The steak was cooked rare, just like I like it. It was tender and lightly seasoned. The shrimps were also lightly seasoned.

Great Vietnamese Food at Reasonable Prices

This was my first time eating Vietnamese in a restaurant (as opposed to someone’s house), and I was really impressed. The traditional beef & tripe pho I had was packed with flavor and managed to even make me appreciate cilantro (a flavor I usually abhor). The portions were beyond hearty – my 12-year-old (big eater) and I shared small bowl and we couldn’t even finish that. 4 of us ate, everyone seemed to be satisfied with the food. The restaurant looks small from the outside but can hold a large number of people.

We did find that both of the servers we encountered had a bit of trouble understanding us. This was true when ordering as well as just asking for forks and basic condiments. This was a bit annoying, but the fact that we all got out of there for about $9/person made it more than worth the extra few trouble of repeating oneself several times.

This is the dish for which the restaurant is famous and the one the server said was most popular. Some of the meat was a bit fatty, but the flavors were to die for. I will definitely get this again and have recommended it to everyone I know! This dish is worth the trip.

Good Food, Reasonable Prices

My son loves this place for the skate, surf, and mountain bike videos and the food. I like the service, its always prompt and polite. My husband appreciates the prices.

Tuna salad sandwich on butter toasted burger bun with lettuce and pickles. I LOVE this dish and almost always get it. The tuna is always white tuna and not too mayonasie (if that’s even a word).
It’s light enough for me to not feel too guilty about eating it, although I bet the calories would make me blush!

Awesome Fish Tacos in a Laid Back Atmosphere

My son loves the tacos, all of the cool surf and skate stickers everywhere, and the fact that its next door to Active Ride Shop. I like the fast and polite service and think the fish tacos are amazing. The place has music playing – it was oldies when we were there – and just feels really relaxed.

You pay at the register when you order and get your own drinks out of a fountain. They bring you your food, so you just leave a couple of buck to tip good service.
