Senior Deal and Plenty of Choice

If you are over 60 you can subtract $1. from the full buffet and if you have the full buffet you will find many pizzas, grilled veggies, an excellent selection of fresh veggies and fruits as well as a nice frozen ice cream for dessert. Their vegetarian artichoke pizza is truly gourmet! The “grill to order” items always taste like burnt wood so we pass on those but go back for doubles on salad. A nice dinner and the county sanitation rating shows they keep everything clean and at the proper temperatures.

Except for the ice cream their desserts are not too great but that is probably a good thing. We don’t want to be tempted.
The fresh pineapple and other fruits are great.

MMMmmmmmmmmmm, greasy!

We live in the neighborhood and decided to try out the restaurant despite the unappealing name. They probably do have a fat guy in the kitchen because everything was prepared in the least healthy manner – fried, butter on top, lots of salt. Yum. This is comfort food but not a place I would eat at again. Would you like butter on your french fries? Maybe when I was 12 but not at 62. There is a place for a restaurant like this, an indulgence you might say, in the world of taste. It isn’t healthy to eat like that often.

Just a place to eat

We do not have many “special” restaurants up near the Felida part of Vancouver and were eager to like Farrar’s. The decor is unspecial, the place is noisy and the tables are crowded too close together. What really disappointed us was the lack of choices on the menu. We do not eat mammals and almost every dish had pork or beef even if it could have been vegetarian. Soup? Pork. Salad? Bacon, almost everything had a little red meat in the creation of the dish. In the end there was perhaps one thing on the menu to order and the cooking and presentation was very ordinary.

Fast food Mexican

We found a review of Muchas Gracias shortly after moving to Vancouver from Illinois. We hoped – based on the review – to find a replacement for our favorite restaurant in our old city but this was just standard fast food nondescript Mexican, a half step up from Taco Bell. We each had something that could be described as a “wrap” – probably labeled a burrito. It was mostly rice and beans with little flavor. We never went back although we drive by the place almost every day.

Fine dining in Vancouver downtown

We have eaten at all the “best” downtown restaurants and only one is worthy of repeating again and again. . . Cafe Al Dente serves chef prepared food in a pleasant space, gentle ambience, calm wait persons, excellent food and SURPRISE! the prices are about the same as a so-so Portland spot. We have enjoyed the pasta, the fish, the duck – we do not eat red meat so cannot comment on the meat eaters menu but cannot imagine it would be less well prepared. Care in preparation and quality food makes al Dente the only Italian restaurant in the Portland/Vancouver area we have recommended to friends.

We normally just have the house salad which comes with the meal but for an extra $2. or so one can add this salad prepared with nice size greens, maple crusted almonds, sweet pears and a spectacular vinaigrette
. It is also available by itself. I’ve ordered it both ways. The house salad is also excellent, by the way – served with house vinaigrette. I just had it with a fine linguini/chicken meal that was all juicy white chicken and delicate sauce. YUM!

Good vegetarian - good not vegetarian

We have eaten at this small, friendly place with the sign on the wall stating “BE NICE OR LEAVE” about a half dozen times in the past year. The food is cooked to order, imaginative, fresh and delicious. Unpretentious decor but has a table with view of parking lot for the blind and sensory deadened. We eat inside. Not a traditional south of the border place. The food really is wonderfully put together with delicate flavors, careful production of a delicious looking as well as tasting meal. I hate my food to look like leftovers scraped off others plates – as it at so many other s-o-t-b places. Nothing like that here. It looks like a CHEF prepared!! Even with carefully chopped herbs and finely diced tomatoes on top. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

“A delicious combination of both whole beans, pinto and black beans, fresh pico de gallo, jack and cheddar cheese, crispy lettuce wrapped in a 12” warm soft flour tortilla. " Took it right off the menu – because that is exactly what it was. “Warm soft flour tortilla” was actually slightly crisped but not greasy. Excellent concoction!

Good food - ENORMOUS serviings

We prefer not to eat friend food so we did not eat off the buffet. Instead we ordered off the menu and had 2 incredibly good shrimp dishes cooked to order. So so decor but very fast service and excellent meal.

We are 3 meals off this one dish – that is how large it was. The shrimp were large, the veggies fresh. It was cooked to order and delicious. The people who have served us have always been very cordial and cheerful. A pleasant dining experience except the serving size is enormous!

Great Indian meals

We have eaten Indian meals in NYC, San Francisco, across Canada and England and used to live pretty near to Devon Ave. in Chicago so we feel like we can say the food served at Namaste is very tasty and nicely made. If you want pretty decor and a crummy meal — go to Portland and pay a lot of money for it. We prefer a plain dining experience with exceptional taste.

There is a buffet and it is a good buffet but we have also eaten many meals directly from the menu and have never been disappointed on either. There are always 4 veggie dishes and 3 chicken plus one other meat on the buffet as well as soup, appetizers, rice, salad, dessert but the baby eggplant stewed up with onions and spices was divine!

A mess on the plate

I have eaten here twice but will never eat at El Tapatio again. Why? Because I like “Mexican” or Tex-Mex cooking too much to eat anything this bad. I ordered vegetarian combination plates and I couldn’t tell the difference between the refried beans and the tacos – everything was buried under a sloppy mess of a sauce that covered everything equally. The shell of the taco – and in another case the burrito – dissolved in the liquid. No crunch. No flavor.

Simply Delicious

We have eaten at Tommy O, Thai Orchid, Dok Koon — to name a few Asian influenced restaurants in Vancouver — and Bamboo Hut is a gem in a sea of ho hum. Nicely prepared — freshly prepared — noodle dishes are what I crave and after eating here twice I’ve been very happy. Nice spice, reasonably size portion and very low price. I don’t understand why it has never been overflowing with customers when we have eaten there because it is the best restaurant in the Salmon Creek area. Nothing else comes close.

Spiced nicely, freshly cooked, fresh tender veggies, spicy soy, not too greasy. YUM! Also had Charbroiled chicken over rice stick noodles for $6.75 and thought it very good as well. Have to go back for Pad Thai and other specialties. Can’t imagine I’ll be disappointed.
