Good, Fast and Inexpensive Lunch or Dinner

I’ve lived in Falls Church for 10 years, and Fairfax Deli & Pizza has never let me down. Their pizza is good, subs are consistently tasty and good, and I really like their cajun fries. While this place won’t win any awards for amazing food, if you just need something cheap and easy and tasty, go here. Free Delivery makes for an easy night out of the kitchen. The staff are also friendly, and they do have tables if you decide to eat there.

Best Italian Subs Ever

If I want an amazing Italian Sub, this is where I go. The drive is worth it. Really good meats and cheeses, and great bread (get the hard roll, though the soft roll is good too). These suckers never disappoint, and are always consistent and always delicious.

I haven’t had their pizza, or frankly much else there, but they get a 5 star rating from me based solely on their subs.

The perfect Italian Sub. Great hard roll, buttery cheeses, spicy meats, sweet and spicy peppers. Perfection at its finest.

Meh.

I’ve eaten at Elevation Burger 3 times over the last 18 months. Each time, I’m underwhelmed. The milkshakes are fine, the fries are good, and the burgers are, well, burgers. Are they better than a fast food burger? Tough call. They taste different than a fast food burger, but not better. I’ve tried their “Regular” cheeseburger: cheddar, pickles, tomatoes, Elevation Sauce, lettuce. Meh. I’ve tried my own version: Blue Cheese, ketchup, mayo, lettuce, tomato, sauteed onions. Meh. The blue cheese is like dressing from a bottle.

Generally the food is average, nothing to rave about. Vegetarians may disagree, as they do serve veggie burgers. I’ve yet to try their veggie burgers, which I think makes up for some of it’s sustained popularity, you can’t get those most places. The burger does come out hot, and the toppings are still chilled, giving a nice dichotomy. But the flavors fail to invigorate, leaving me disappointed. The staff seems to turn over a lot.

The place is always clean, and has a nice decor. It is also very family and kid friendly, with lots of booster seats and baby high chairs.

Burger is well done, nothing special. Toppings taste fresh, but muddy (could be my selection of toppings). I find the Burger King Whopper better.

Great new Chinese Option in Fairfax!

I don’t normally get to Fairfax much for dinner, but I was in the shopping center that Lo’s is in, and decided to get some takeout.

Wow! I was very impressed with the food. The Kung Pao Chicken was well spiced and flavorful, and the Pork Lo Mein was simply the best I’ve had.

The staff was very friendly, the service was fast, and the food was delicious. I think this is one of my new favorite Chinese restaurants in the area!

Simply amazing. The pork was nicely prepared, the noodles cooked to perfection, and the flavors were just perfect. Not too greasy, just right. Very well prepared.

Really Great Crispy Duck

The restaurant is cute, small but the people who run it are friendly and nice. Had lunch there with a few friends. One had the Pad Thai, which was fine but surprisingly not amazing as you might expect from the name of the restaurant.

I had the Crispy Duck Basil which was simply outstanding.

While maybe not every item on the menu is out of this world, I would definitely go here again to find more nuggets of goodness.

An amazingly well prepared and well seasoned dish. Just the right balance of crispy and tender duck. Fabulous!

I almost don't want to tell you

I almost didn’t write a review for Miyagi because it is one of my favorite sushi restaurants. It’s already pretty popular and packed on a regular basis, and I don’t want you crowding it up so I can’t get a table!

Simply some of the best sushi I’ve had without having to drive into DC or Maryland. Close by, cozy, and consistently for the almost 10 years I’ve been going the best sushi I can find in Northern Virginia.

Granted, I’ve kind of given up on trying other places. I’ve probably had sushi at 10 different places in and around Northern Virginia, but Miyagi is consistently great.

Pretty Good Burgers.

I’ve been on-again, off-again on Five Guys over the past few years. The first time I went there, I was a big fan. The next time, not so much. I’ve heard unconfirmed rumors and complaints of inconsistencies between locations. I can’t confirm it first hand, but the fact that my appreciation for Five Guys has flipped more than John Kerry, it could be.

At the end of the day, Five Guys makes a good burger. It’s up to you to choose the right toppings, and I don’t think it can be the fault of Five Guys if you pick the wrong toppings. Restaurants that let you choose too much do a disservice in my opinion. You ever go to those asian restaurants where you put stuff in a bowl and they put it on a hot flat top and cook it up for you? Always a disappointment, because I mix things I like without regard to what they might taste like together. Same problem at Five Guys.

But when you choose correctly, it’s a good burger.

The fries are good, I prefer the cajun version. Served in a styrofoam cup, then inside a brown paper bag. They should just skip the cup IMO.

One unique aspect of Five Guys is the free whole in shell peanuts. Eat what you want, throw the shells on the floor (though most people clean their own up).

Though burgers are well done, they taste pretty good. A good simple burger, tasty with the right choice of toppings. I prefer: blue cheese, sauteed mushrooms and onions, lettuce, tomato, mayo & ketchup.
