Out of the way, but worth looking for!
My daughter and I love this restaurant! My husband doesn’t. It has a wide choice of dishes for vegetarians…yeah! But my daughter, the carnivore, loves their steak for dinner and their buffalo burger for lunch. We both agree that the carrot cake is simply fabulous. I’m not a beer drinker, so can’t comment on the beer, but one of these days I may have to try the real beer (they have a root beer version as well) float for dessert! Don’t forget to stroll around the gardens while you’re there. I also heard that they have brewery tours, but I’d rather just eat and look at the gardens.
Dishes I tried:
Onion Rings
Huge, but really good even though a bit greasy

Good simple food in great location!
We eat here mostly for lunch, but have been there for dinner and brunch. I love their soups, salads and the tuna melt…yummy! People that I have taken there for lunch say the Chicken Pot Pie, Pasta Bolognaise, and the barbeque pork sandwich are delicious. My daughter complained because they serve homemade potato chips instead of fries, but even she liked their pasta. Don’t leave without trying a cookie, or if you’re too full, take home a bag of 3 cookies. My favorite are the Oatmeal Chocolate Chip. The outdoor venue of this restaurant makes it fine for lunch year round, but also wonderful for dinner on Summer evenings.

Perfect lunch spot!
We love to have lunch at a Delight of France. They have a wonderful menu and great pastries. It is an adorable little spot with a great atmosphere. I know they serve dinner and breakfast, but I haven’t tried those yet. There are nice items to please a vegetarian, as well as, plenty for meat lovers. Great place to meet and linger over tea or coffee while sharing a dessert.

Best place for tea or coffee in town!
I have my morning tea at the Blue Mug at least once or twice a week. They have a huge selection of both tea and coffee, and they make it fresh when you order. They’’ll mix different teas (and probably coffees) for you if you ask. Their other location near the Escondido Country Club is also nice, but I love the original in downtown. Prices are great and it’s a fun place to people watch.

Great view & love the Poke Rolls!
We often go to Jakes for business lunches and sometimes for casual dinners. I always order the Poke rolls and hearts of palm salad. Even when the Poke rolls aren’t on the menu, they will make them for me. The calamari is also great. While my husband and various guests that we have eaten with at Jakes have made very positive comments about the other seafood and steaks, I admit that I may be in a rut about what I order. But I plan to stay in my rut because I just love those Poke rolls and hearts of palm salad! Desserts are good too, but I rarely have room for more than a bite.
Dishes I tried:
Poke Rolls
The best anywhere!
Hearts of Palm salad
Light and delicious. Beats a Caesar any day.
Calamari
One of the best versions of Calamari as an appetizer that you’ll find.

Casual fun on the sand
You can’t beat the location of this long established Del Mar beach eatery. The food is respectable, but the location for a casual meal with friends, family or a date is great. My husband and I used to come here for food and drinks 20 years ago when we were dating, we brought our daughter here when she was just a toddler, and now that she is a teenager, she loves to bring her friends here for lunch. Try the fish & chips or the fish tacos. My daughter loves their Calamari.
Dishes I tried:
Fish & Chips or Fish Tacos
Like them both, and I tend to order one or the other every time we eat here.

Food and View are great, service not so great!
My daughter and I really like the food at all of the Il Foraio restaurants that we have tried (Coronado, Santa Monica, and Del Mar), but we have found the attitudes of and service by the restaurant staff at the Del Mar location to be unpleasant. The staff members that we dealt with were pretentious, unpleasant and inefficient. We waited so long for service the last time that we ate there, that we almost gave up and left. Our water and tea glasses were never refilled, and our salad plates were left sitting on the table during the entree even though we asked for them to be removed. My daughter loves the French Toast served at Sunday Brunch, but if not for the Pasta Putanesca, and that it is a long drive to another Il Fornaio location, I wouldn’t go back.
Dishes I tried:
Pasta Putanesca
Yum! If you like this simple rustic dish, you won’t find one much better.

Great Addition to Grand Avenue
My family and I have been to Tango three times. Twice for dinner and once for Mother’s Day Brunch. We love it! The food is creative, the portions are good but small enough to allow for more than one course, and the presentation original and fun. We loved the Mother’s Day brunch, and hope that they will do a Father’s Day brunch as well. The regular prices are fair for the quality of food and presentation, and there are options to try the restaurant at promotional rates. I’m a pesco-vegetarian. and they have dishes that I can eat without asking for alterations. Try this restaurant!
Dishes I tried:
Gnocchi, Panini & Tomato Bisque Plate
Strong, rich flavors, great presentation, and perfect for a non-vegan vegetarian.
Desserts
Our party of 10 tried almost all the desserts on the menu the night we were there, and then as a party of four we tried other desserts that were specials that night. Every one was great and the presentations were nearly as good as the food! Try the strawberry-rhubarb cobbler or the donuts. Yum!
