Hummus Place.

Decently priced and one portion will feed two people! Had their $7.50 lunch special (one appetizer + hummus dish) and $6.95 shakshuka (an egg dish in tomato sauce).

The falafel appetizer was YUM but their hummus masabacha was only so-so not as tasty as I had hoped. My boyfriend and I weren’t so keen on their shakshuka it just tasted like an egg-y pita pizza. If we I was to do it over I’d probably just have ordered the lunch special since we were quite full by the time they brought out the shakshuka.

Big Woody's

We were on our way to NYC and stayed the night in Allentown, PA.

Since it was Sunday I guess you’re unable to get alcohol from liquor shops in PA so we ended up at this “bar”/pizza joint. They had a special where you could buy a large pizza pie for $6.99 so we got that and a few beers to go.

It took ages to get two pizza pies. When we finally arrived back at the hotel I was extremely let down by their pies. The pizza just tasted bland. I wasn’t expecting anything special since it was just a cheese pizza but it was almost tasteless.

Flat Branch Pub & Brewing.

This place is YUM.

My boyfriend and I were driving through on our way to NYC and we stopped here for a quick dinner and was really pleased with the pub.

We shared their $8.99 Stout Buffalo Meatloaf and it was filling enough to feed the both of us. LOVED their mashed potatoes! A part of me wishes that we had ordered two items off the menu because I have a feeling that everything else would be equally tasty. The beer was nice enough to get a second and the place is pretty busy since it’s located within a college town.

Papaya King

It is what it is.

My boyfriend and I shared the $7.00 King Combo (2 hot dogs, curly fries and drink) which was okay. I really enjoyed their lemonade but the hot dog had this strange onion with ketchup sauce topping. I think the dog by itself would have been more yummy. I liked the curly fries but they were on the oily side.

Sammy's Noodle Shop & Grill.

Yesterday I was in the mood for dim sum and after reading a few reviews we narrowed it down to Sammy’s Noodle Shop & Grill due to it’s close proximity and mass approval ratings. Since I grew up in Southern California I’m a bit spoilt for Asian food and have so far been quite underwhelmed by the places I’ve tried here in NYC. I’m not having any luck picking… suggestions would be appreciated :)

It was too hot to order noodles which I should have done since that’s what they’re known for… instead I opted for a variety of appetizers just to keep me going til dinnertime. I was expecting a small intimate Chinese restaurant but was surprised by the large scale of the place. The service was quite typical of a Chinese restaurant where it’s no-nonsense – you order food it’s delivered within minutes… you eat and then you’re out.

Considering the prices the food was decent. I can see why others like it but it’s definitely not my idea of really good Chinese food. The pork & shrimp shumai was amazing and I would come back just to stuff my face on those! The prices have increased since the menu has been posted on here and I think their dim sum selection is really limited.

I enjoyed this dish… a bit on the oily side so if you don’t want a fried pancake probably not something you want to order. I wished they had added in more scallions I could barely taste any.

So-so. The pork was good the bun was not the regular white dough you expect when you order a steamed bun.
