"mmm... donuts..."

I’m a vegetarian who eats fish. I’m not a “foodie” by any means, but I enjoy a good meal at a good price in a good atmosphere. I have my frequent dining spots, but I enjoy trying new place on occasion. But I love picnics the best :)

Chaco Canyon Cafe

Sep 5, 2007 Link

food that makes you feel awesome

I’m so glad to have found this place and finally tried it. As someone with food sensitivities and other dietary restrictions, it can be hard to find places to eat. Chaco was perfect – organic and vegan, with a healthy selection of gluten-free, soy-free, and raw fare. The smoothies are very refreshing – I had the “super green,” which smells like cut grass and tastes like an apple just off the tree. The lime spritzer tastes like lime – not too sweet, and not too sour, and certainly not artificial. Haven’t tried any of the desserts yet, but I am please with the soups, sandwiches, raw entrees and bowls that I’ve had!

This place is great

What I ate:

This was a very tasty sandwich – but didn’t have much protein. If you get a soup along side, you have a meal!

  • *****

First of all, I love black beans and brown rice. Second, hello… pumpkin mole! Awesome. Filling. Wonderful!

  • *****

Wonderful… nothing like a traditional lasagna. No goopy cheese lost in a sea of sauce. This was lite fare, completely raw and free of pasta. Gluten and soy free, which is a plus for me! Tasted great and felt good.

  • *****

I downed this in about one minute. Delicious, raw, and fresh. It has blueberries and greens, hence the name.

  • *****

My favorite so far… it just tastes like a spring afternoon sitting on the grass.

Mysore Masala South Indian Cuisine

Jul 26, 2007 Link

now called "Mysore Masala"

This restaurant has undergone a name change and slight menu change over the past few months in an attempt to attract more potential consumers.

This was my first experience with Indian food, and it was absolutely delicious! I went for dinner and got palak paneer, a spinach curry with cheese, a potato dumpling appetizer, and a mango lassi. YUM! The only complaint that I have is that the food took a little long. It was attractive, piping hot, tasted wonderful and was fresh. Our service was great. We complimented the server, and she brought us out a complimentary dessert: round balls of homemade cheese in a sweet syrup.

They have an $8 lunch buffet every day from 11-2:30 that I will certainly be checking out.

Vivian's Pride Ice Cream (Theno's Dairy)

Jun 20, 2007 Link

cute little shop

I grew up getting ice cream cones from this shop. One of the big draws is the pumpkin ice cream, which comes every October, and the cantaloupe in the summer. They have some nice, unique flavors, give you great big scoops, and the treats taste fine. You can also buy by the pint or quart or even gallon in a few select flavors. The menu often changes.

There’s nothing REALLY special about the ice cream here – it is good, but nothing to write home about. And whatever you do, don’t get a glass of their well water.

The Melting Pot

Jun 19, 2007 Link

wow

Very expensive, but well worth it, especially if somebody else is paying.

We didn’t even bother with the “main course,” and got simply the cocktail round, cheese fondue, salad, and dessert fondue. That was definitely plenty and I was stuffed by the end! The waitstaff was very friendly and informative, and the food was delicious. If you’ve never had fondue (or even if you have), it’s a great experience to have with friends.

What I ate:
  • *****

we had the Wisconsin and the Fiesta. Got bread, granny smith apples, veggies, and more to dip into two super-melty, hot cheese pots. Not only delicious, but fun.

  • *****

Wow. We got dark chocolate and a milk chocolate with caramel and peanut butter. Comes with strawberries, bananas, sponge cake cubes, cheesecake, marshmallows, and more to dip. Absolutely divine.

  • ****

My first mojito. It was very tasty, but the blueberries were not featured very prominently. Not sure what to expect, but still quite good!

SoulFood Books

great coffee

Definitely good service at this bookstore/coffeehouse! People are friendly, helpful, and the atmosphere is relaxed. Comfy chairs to relax in, a stage for live music and poetry performance in the evenings, and plenty of seating. The coffee is great, too. A small selection of baked goods to go with your drink, courtesy of Hancock’s Bakery down the street.

Some of the best coffee in Redmond, and in a great atmosphere. Not nearly as customer-friendly since Victor and Jane left for Cannon Beach, though :(

Awesome, organic donuts. Also vegan. Nice little coffee shop inside, but I haven’t had the coffee yet. I love the chocolate raspberry donuts, though, they are soft and delicious.
