Little gem downtown K-town.

There isn’t too much that attracts me to the downtown area of Kitchener but I will go out of my way to visit the rainbow.

Dishes I tried:

Curry Chicken Dinner

The dinner includes :

  • Caribbean Curry Chicken which is very tasty and tender.
  • Rice and peas which compliments the curry perfectly. I recommend you having a little extra curry sauce on the rice which they normally offer. If you are not familiar with this dish the peas are actually red bean which are very similar to kidney beans but smaller.
  • Choice or salads. Generally they have a toss salad with a choice of dressings, coleslaw or macaroni salad. I generally get the coleslaw but this is not what makes me keep coming back.
  • Plantain – I would describe this as a caramelized roasted plantain that is soft and tender. It is served with all of the dinners and compliments each one hot or saucy.

As you can imagine, this is a lot of food and they are very generous. I don’t not think I have ever finished the dish completely. Always sure to finish the chicken and the plantain and that is what keeps me coming back.

The restaurant is cafeteria style and the dining area feels only a little better then a cafeteria but in my experience the food is at its best there. Still great at home but once the food is in the take-out containers something changes just slightly.

I curse giving them my business

The food at Mings Dynasty is no different then most Canadian Chinese Cuisine but the service in the restaurant dinning in or out is very unfriendly. Every time I have been there I swear I will never bother going back because they treat their customers as though they are doing them a big service and do not deserve to be listened to. I am not writing this after having one bad experience, sadly the last 5 times I have left I have been muttering frustrations out the door. Why do I end up back? It is two blocks from my house in an area that has next to no retail space. Every few months I get lazy and do not want to drive to pickup Chinese so I walk over for takeout.

BOO to Mings Dynasty.

Is this still around?

From my understanding Villa Nina was destroyed in a very unfortunate fire in the area it was located. My experience at the restaurant was good. Curtious service and great food. Was on the pricey side though which made other restaurant a little more appealing since Villa Nina was located in a strip mall.

It's all about the atmosphere

You won’t find anything crazy different on the menu at Moose Winooski’s BUT you will always get a very tasty, fresh version of it.

What keeps Moose Winooski’s hopping often with a line up is the atmosphere. The service is friendly and decor is fun. They have one of the best patios in K-town and the bartenders know what your drink is supposed to taste like.

If you are going there expecting an amazing meal and drink you may be let down but if you are just looking for a fun place to meet up with some friends your guaranteed to enjoy.
