Sudwerk Restaurant and Brewery

Feb 6, 2007 Link

Expensive Bar Food

The food at Sudwerks is actually good, but pretty expensive for being a bar in Davis. It’s like eating California Pizza Kitchen instead of Dominos. The service was pretty bad as well. You would think since it is a bar and they want you to drink up, they would come and ask if you need anything every 10 minutes.

What I ate:

Great taste of a combination of onions, avacados, cheese and sun dried tomatoes! But you only get like 6 halves of an egg roll for 6 dollars.

I thought this was an excellent dish. It was very healthy as well. Spinach, chicken, mozarella…well and bacon. I totally recommend this for a large lunch item, but might not be enough food for dinner.

Extras:
I came here for
fun with friends
My meal cost
between $10 and $25
I tipped

Fontana's Italian Restaurant

Jan 22, 2007 Link

Great Italian in the South Bay

The atmosphere of Fontana’s is excellent for a date or causal dining with friends and family. It’s not too loud and you can actually hear your conversations. This place has a lot of seafood dishes as well, so if you are into clams, scallops, lobster, etc, this is the place for you. Even though I’m not that much into Seafood, I still found an excellent dish to try! Our waitress was superb and very helpful. The rest of the staff was very nice and always made sure our water glasses were full and plates were bused.

This dish also has shrimp in it, so I asked for it on the side. But the ravioli and chicken had just the right amount of spices. It was served in a butter sauce, which wasn’t too rich at all.

Extras:
I came here for
a family meal
My meal cost
between $25 and $50
I tipped
more than 18%

Scoops

Dec 31, 2006 Link

Best gelato/ice cream in Socal

I would rate this gelato at least as good as the best gelato place in Italy, if not better. The gelato here is homemade and very silky smooth. You won’t find any traditional ice cream flavors here – they also change on a regular basis. The flavors range from ginger to cheesecake. There are at least a handful of vegan flavors. There is a suggestion board for new flavors. The guy behind the counter (Tai), is very friendly and will let you try as many flavors as you want until you decide. For the price of $2 dollars, you can get 2 huge scoops…nothing in socal compares. There is also a large movie screen where DVDs can be played.

Loved it…and I’ve had a lot of pistachio gelato from other places.

Izzy's Steaks and Chops

Dec 24, 2006 Link

Meat, meat and more meat

Izzy’s probably has one of the best atmospheres. It is very “homey” with its brown wood paneling and red velvet curtains. It isn’t a loud atmosphere either. I could actually hear others in my party without them having to shout across the table. I had prime rib, which was a little dry. The famous scalloped potatoes and cream spinach was VERY rich and unless you are prepared for eating lots of cream, i would stay away from them. I thought the asparagus and mashed potatoes were a good complement to the prime rib. The chocolate cake was excellent! But also very rich – so if you can’t handle lots of chocolate without milk, I suggest getting another dessert.

The cut of meat I had was decent – it was actually a very thick piece. I had asked for medium and thought it was a bit overcooked and dry.
