I think Szechuan Chef is overrated. I was really disappointed actually. The food was just average at best and they use MSG, which made me really thirsty after the meal. The service left much to be desired as well when they served us a dish we didn’t order and they refused to take it back. Oh well, I doubt I’ll go back again.

Best chinese food I've had here
I love this place so much that I went back again 2 days later. To me, you probably can’t find anything more authentic than this here in Seattle. The decor of the place looked like a typical restaurant you find in Asia. The restaurant is tucked away in the corner of Belgate Plaza and you wouldn’t have known there was arestuarant there from the main road. Yet, the place is packed on weekdays and you have to wait on weekends. Obviously showing the power of word-of-mouth. Btw, funny thing also is that so far I’ve only seen asians there so I guess that’s also a good indicator. I like the servings here too, it’s not american size, which adds to the authenticity. You would think that with such flavourful food there would be lots of MSG, but I didn’t feel thirsty after my meal or get the headaches that comes with MSG. My only gripe if I have to find one is that I wish they had a bigger menu so that I can eat more of their delicious food!
Dishes I tried:
Taiwanese style chow mein
Surprisingly good considering I don’t like yellow thick noodles. But it was tasty with a good balance of ingredients and noodles
Taiwanese green cabbage stir-fried
This has lots of garlic in it and the cabbage retained its crispiness even after its cooked. Very light and refreshing.
Squid pottage w/ rice noodle or egg noodle
This is another taiwanese night market staple. I hope I got the item name right but its eggs with the starchy thing. In taiwan they call it “Ou Lua” or “Ou Jian” I think.
Broiled fish w/ miso glaze
I’ve had this pretty often in japanese restaurants. Don’tt hink you can go very wrong with this dish
Citrus fruit tea (cold/hot)
Something different. And it comes with the cutest burner to keep it warm while you eat.
Hakka Chop Suey
This is a mix of chinese celery, tofu and cuttlefish slices. Tasty and healthy.
Salt and pepper chicken
I’m not too crazy about fried stuff but I think this is the type of fried chicken you find in taiwan night market.
Sauteed sliced lamb w/Taiwanees BBQ sauce
This is definetely the dish that stole my heart. It is stir fried with taiwanese cabbage. The bursts of flavours do a Riverdance on your palate while you’re chewing. (haha can’t help being dramatic)

Surprisingly good
I came to this place under the strong recommendation of my friend Koichi. He’s Japanese and he said this place was awesome so I thought it can’t be that bad. The atmosphere was laid-back and pub-like so it’s a good place with friends for hearty meal and a beer.

Awesome place for groups
After a meal with friends, the location makes it really convenient to go clubbing later without having to park again. The tapas here is fun to share with 4-5 people and a good selection of wine. This is the Sanjaya of tapas-style restaurants really. Highly recommended!
Dishes I tried:
chicken and laab gai
It’s mixed minced meat which you wrap in individual lettuce leaves. Very refreshing and tasty
pear sorbet and candied lavender
i love the taste of lavendar in this sorbet.
pork belly and kimchi
Soft and tender pork belly in kimchi sauce. The texture of the pork belly was very delicious, the only thing preventing an extra star was it’s not very authentic kimchi. But still some yummy sauce.
hanger steak and daikon/shiso
Oh man, I love the sauce for this. The texture of the beef with the sauce is just heavenly.

So apparently the chef here is some famous german chef. The menu is not just sausages and rostis though. The portions are good too. I also like it that they serve warm crusty bread instead of the cold ones you get elsewhere. the desserts are to DIE for!! I was quite disappointed with my entree but the ones my friends ordered looked very good. I can’t wait to go back again!

Vietnamese restaurant with nice ambience
Nice water feature at the front of the restaurant gives it a rather tropical feel. There’s also a nice al fresco dining area in the front. The menu here is extensive. A little too much for us to choose from. But that’s not really a complaint, just that I don’t know where to start. All in all, a thoroughly savoury fare.
Dishes I tried:
Stuff squid appetizer
Tiny portion here, but oh so yummy. It’s stuffed with meat and mushrooms and bbqed on skewers.
Mango with lemongrass tofu salad
Julienned green mango mixed with peanut in spicy fish sauce. Topped with lemongrass marinated tofu. It’s perfect
Chicken ginger vodka
A rather simple dish with some chinese influence. Nothing spectacular.
Thịt kho trứng nước dừa ~ Braised pork coconut juice
This tastes a lot like chinese braised pork leg. And I don’t taste any coconut juice. It tastes good though, but food name is quite misleading.
Quatre homemade ice cream
Ice cream in four flavours of your choice. I chose durian, pandan leaf, sesame seed and roasted coconut. Nice.
Banana cake with glutinous rice
I’m not sure if I got the name correct. But this is served with warm coconut milk. Rather unique. Tastes really good surprisingly!
