Beef, it's what's for dinner.
I had heard many stories of the 7 courses of beef. I tried it here at Anh Hong for the first time and walked away indifferent about the meal. The food was decent enough for me to recommend trying it once for the experience of tasting 7 different ways of preparing beef; however, once was enough.
Setting: Casual
Service: Informative, but a bit slow at times
Dishes I tried:
Seven Courses of Beef
The beef salad was alright. It tasted like a spring roll without the wrapper. The rice porridge was tasty, almost like how the chinese make theirs. The two different types of beef sausage was nothing special, but still tasty enough for me to down a few.

Dishes I tried:
Seto Steak
This steak was topped with daikon and another garnish I was not able to name (it was spicy and orange). The steak came with ponzu dipping sauce and was served on a sizzling platter. It was decent steak, but I think next time I’ll stick with a sushi.

Dishes I tried:
Bowl 'o Soba
The cold buckwheat noodles were SOO tasty! We had free soba to keep our stomachs from growling (thanks owners of Yuki Sushi!), it was soo good we ordered a side bowl for dinner too. This is will definately be an item I order when I return!

worth a try? maybe....
New japanese fusion restaurant on El Camino has a decor worthy of being on Santana Row but the food is just decent.
I will need to return here to test the sushi rolls. Update to come when I return.
Service was good.
Dishes I tried:
Lunch combination (2 items)
I had the tuna sashimi and the chicken. The tuna tasted quite normal until i saw a hair on one of them. The chef promptly gave me a new meal so I was satisfied. Despite the snafu, i believe the restaurant was clean and deserves another chance.

Sgd = So good damnit!
The restaurant is clean and bright. There’s usually a small line (10-15 min wait), but the turn around is fast. The walls are lined with children’s drawings which gives the place a friendly warm atmosphere. The service is excellent and friendly.
Your meals always come with lots of appetizer dishes (kim chee, daikon, bean sprouts, cucumber, cold soup, unidentified korean picked vegetables…), and 5 second melon gum at the end of your meal.
Dishes I tried:
Original Tofu Soup
What can I say? Standard tofu soup! Yummy! Be sure to get your bowl medium or hot if you like spices. The mild is too bland in my opinion.

Oh sala, I love this place!
Chaat Cafe is the best Indian fast (semi-fast) food joint ever. You can order items a-la-carte or as a dinner meal. The place is clean and bright, with friendly serving staff.
Fast food joint = no tip = :D
Dishes I tried:
Chicken Tikka Masala
I LOVE THIS DISH!!!! Tender chicken with the finger licking good sauce. Granted I only lick my fingers if I run out of nan. :)

Small japanese shop on univeristy
Very small japanese food on university ave. The service there was friendly, and it might be worth a look if you aren’t into the big noisy atmosphere of Miyake’s just a few blocks away.
Dishes I tried:
Unadon
BBQ eel with dry seaweed on top, with a base of rice underneath. Very tasty and fresh eel. A bit on the expensive side, but well worth it if you like eel.
Agedashi Tofu
The tofu was not fried long enough.

Dishes I tried:
Penne Baked
Large dish of pasta with sausage, cheese and marinara sauce. I couldn’t tell that the sausages were made from boar meat. They tasted like regular sausages to me. Thumbs up! I would order this again if I have a pasta craving.

opilicious
11/07/2006I agree that it’s worth checking out since I haven’t come across another restaurant with anything similar on the menu. I guess it’s more the concept rather than the dishes that make it unique.
