"You can't be late until you show up."

I am 24, in Washington DC, and I work as a journal assistant for OSA. In my free time, I like to play piano, sing, read, play video games, cook and bake, and hang out with my fiancé and our kitties. I am a bit of a foodie.

Bagels Etc

May 21, 2008 Link

A great spot for Breakfast & Lunch

The bagels here are tasty, but a little small compared to some NYC bagels I’ve had recently.

I come here for the lunch sandwiches with fresh and tasty ingredients. The service is always quick and they always friendly, if not a bit brief.

Certainly visit for breakfast or lunch, but be sure to have cash on you, as they don’t take credit cards. There is an ATM in the place, but I can’t remember which branch it is from, which makes me think that it’s not widely known to begin with—skip the ATM fees and bring cash ahead of time. $10 should do it!

What I ate:

Sliced turkey, fresh avocado, sprouts, lettuce, tomato, mayo on a fresh bialy—delicious! I live for these things.

Ess-a-Bagel

A Mind-Blowing Bagel

Sounds comic, I realize, but it was the truth. These bagels are HUGE and delicious, especially with the home-made cream cheese spreads. The deli servers were awesome, too.

What I ate:

The cream cheese here is phenominal. I may dream about it. Next time I will have the Apple Cinnamon!

Cosi

May 6, 2008 Link

Workday lunch of choice!

I kind of love Cosi, especailly this location. The service is always quick and great, and it’s so close to where I work.

What I ate:
  • *****

TBM—Tomato, basil, and mozerella on a tasty (wheat if possbile) flatbread, and matched with a dried tomato pesto (or at least that’s what I think it is). I really enjoy that sandwich. :) I like the veggie one better than the chicken one!

  • *****

I prefer Cosi salads to chopt salads, and aside from Cosi having fewer choices, they’re essentially the same thing. Cosi’s caesar is great for fans of caesar salads.

Good for breakfast!

And good for breakfast at anytime! A nice place to get a reasonable egg bagel and fried potatoes around noon, but good luck on the weekdays!

American City Diner

May 5, 2008 Link

American Fare

Sometimes, in DC, all of the wine lists and $20 appetizers can be dizzying. Where’s the elbow grease and good old American know-how to find a decent burger?

You can find it at the American City Diner, decorated with pictures of Marilyn and snappy comic lines. If you’re looking for a postmodern interpretation of American tradition—“those were the days”—come to the American City Diner. At 8pm every night, there’s a free movie!

Also, definitely order the milkshakes. Out of this world.

What I ate:
  • *****

A milkshake from American City can totally be a meal. I love a good vanilla shake, and this is a good vanilla shake. My fiancé claims the tastiness of the chocolate with the same vigor.

2 Amys

May 5, 2008 Link

Awesome.

The pizza is great, but so is everything else! On my trips to 2 Amys, I enjoy ordering the Supli a telefono, Polpettine al forno, and a glass of their fizzy red wine (I can’t remember what the name of it is).

The cheese and meat trays are excellent here, too—the proscuitto is to die for, especially paired with the mozzerella di bufala. The sheep ricotta and arugula just great, too.

There is seriously too much good food here, and I haven’t even started mentioning specific pizzas yet! Try it all, really. It’s worth it.

What I ate:
  • *****

These are only appetizers, but I order them EVERY TIME I’m at 2 Amys. Supli is mozerella wrapped around risotto, then breaded and deep fried. Can life really get any better than that?

La Tomate

May 5, 2008 Link

Enjoyable!

I’ve seen some bad reviews of this restaurant on other sites, but I had a very pleasant and delicious dinner at La Tomate. I ordered the Farfalle Prosciutto e Funghi and loved it. My fiance ordered the Trenette Nere “La Tomate” and wasn’t as impressed.

The service was fine, as in nothing astounding, but no beverages in my lap either. The food came relatively quickly, too. I think I remember the appitizer, the Prosciutto e Mozzarella Fresca, being a little lack-luster, but I can’t be sure.

In closing, I would definately return here, but mainly becasue the Farfalle Prosciutto e Funghi was just delicious.

What I ate:
  • *****

It was amazing! I really like cream sauces, and the prosciutto added this great flavor.
