good food, bad atmosphere

Ate here on a celebratory occasion, but, man, this place doesn’t feel very celebratory.

It was pretty empty on a Saturday night. Even though the local paper had said there would be live music, the waitress said they hadn’t done this for a long time and needed to get around to telling the paper this. Staff was lukewarm and it just felt kind of old and stuffy.

Now, that said, the food is really good. And they have a great martini menu. I had the duck and my husband had the surf and turf and was happily surprised by the amount of steak he got. The flourless chocolate cake was the best I’ve had.

This was the most expensive meal we’ve ever had in Bangor and although the food was top notch, I don’t think I’d go back. For that price, I want atmosphere and friendly service as well as good food.

The Barking Cat Café

special breakfast

We checked this place out on the day of the Kenduskeag race and there was no where to sit at first (it’s tiny and there are only 4 tables). Weren’t sure we were going to stay (they do take out) but a spot opened up and I’m so glad we hung around.

Had banana and chocolate bread french toast. The serving size was just right and the bread seemed fresh baked, nice and chewy. Sooo good! We’ll definitely be back on a less busy day to sip coffee and hang out.

Massimo's

Our new favorite restaurant

I think we would eat here every week if we could. The staff are friendly, the place is often packed, and the food is incredible. Would recommend the pasta over the pizzas, all the sauces are so amazing. Good wine list. And I loved the tiramisu too.

I have to force myself to order something other than this in order to broaden my horizons- but this simple panchetta, tomato, and onions really rocks.

Extras:
I came here for
fun with friends
My meal cost
between $25 and $50
I tipped
between 15% to 18%
