Frank's Diner
Jul 20, 2008
Ambience extraordinaire
Frank’s is definitel an icon in the Kenosha food scene. Garbage plates are the favorite and the line of hungry guests can see as there are as many as 20 garbage plates on the griddle while you’re waiting for a seat. Great Mimosas and rude but, good service. (Hey? Everyone loves rude service).
Unfortunately, after many great breakfasts at Frank’s in the past, I tried the steak and eggs. The steak was definitely doused in meat tenderizer. Making the steak a little too salty with an after taste. The eggs, hashbrowns and homemade toast, save the breakfast!
Keep up the great work Frank’s. By the way, everyone in line was chattering about you being on the Food Network. So, bonus! That feature worked well for you.

Bombay City Restaurant

Gurnee, India?
By far the best Indian food in Lake County…it may be only 1 of 2. Indian food is not frequent or the normal in northern Illinois but, this restaurant offers a nice variety. Spiced nicely and offers great buffet choices to those that have never tried Indian food before. Good.

Bartley House
Apr 14, 2008
Irish? maybe
The Bartley House in Kenosha, WI has been one of my favorites for some time. The food and service is impeccable. One of the few gems that still allows smoking while having cocktails and waiting. While it seems to be an older crowd, Bartley house is consistent in it’s attention to the customer. Friendly and fun bartenders and waitresses who know what they’re doing and bring the old “professional” style back to waiting table.
Steak is most definitely the top performer on the menu, cooked to perfection with twice baked potato and always fresh salads. But, their seafood also ranks high. They offer some of the best Shrimp DeJonghe around. Make sure to check them out…as they’re tucked away in a most unusual location. Make sure to tip the guard who stands out front, he’s always there and friendly to add to the overall service. Great job!
