this is my favorite restaurant!
i read the other reviews, and with respect, i really can’t imagine how we could be talking about the same place! first of all, there are two menus because they offer a persian cuisine and an afghani cuisine. both are excellent, but i always order from the afghani menu because i have a ‘favorite dinner’. i will make a suggestion for you as it can be a little overwhelming at first. as an appetizer, order quruti: it is sort of a bread in sour cream sauce – sounds weird, but very tasty. for the main course, order the persian salad (tomatoes, cucumber, onion in a lemony vinaigrette), and a rack of lamb, which is to die for. rice comes with it, i think – very different from ‘usual’ rice: the individual grains are not at all smooshy. it is seasoned with tiny bits of carrot and the occasional currant, and some spices – excellent, try the mantoo, which is described as a dumpling but is actually a very soft noodle with a piquant tomato sauce which you can have with or without meat – i like it with. for a vegetable, order the eggplant, which also has a meat sauce. for dessert, i recommend the firini, which is sort of a custard but very delicately seasoned with rosewater. i hope you enjoy this meal as much as i do – this is a very special place, and highly recommended – check the reviews on the wall as you walk in.
Dishes I tried:
rack of lamb
tender, mildly spicy, very different from any lamb dish you have probably eaten. i love it!
