Daphne's Greek Cafe

May 7, 2008 Link

Opa!

More than a typical fast food place, Daphne’s really delivers when it comes to selection, quality, and great taste. I had it for the first time about 6 months ago, and now I can’t get enough of it! Generous portions of freshly prepared foods offered at very reasonable prices.

What I ate:
  • ****

A tasty vegetarian option. Well seasoned to be flavorful, but not overpowering, the falafel are good in a pita, or on their own. One of my favorites!

  • *****

The marinated chicken is tender and juicy. Comes with a fresh, cool salad topped with a tangy Greek vinagrette dressing. And the rice…..oh, the rice! Words can’t describe the rice…..(-:

Original Roadhouse Grill

May 7, 2008 Link

Pretty decent

Above average taste and quality. Special requests can be tricky, though. Ask for a steak to be well-done(gasp!), and you may end up with a lump of charcoal on your plate (yet somehow, places like Morton’s and McCormick & Schmick’s can seem to do it very well!). The bread and peanuts are enough to keep you coming back for more! Very casual, noisy atmosphere. Not the best place to go for a quiet evening out, but if you don’t mind a lot of hustle and bustle, then you’ll feel very comfortable here.

What I ate:
  • ***

A little small for the price, and please don’t ask for it to be well-done! You’ll end up with an inedible piece of burnt charcoal. Medium-well goes in the other direction….way to undercooked. They just haven’t seemed to master the art of cooking a steak for those of us who like it to be completely dead!

  • *****

Perhaps the best thing on the menu! Melted butter, cinnamon, and brown sugar combine to top this sweet spud in heavenly goodness! Who needs dessert when this tasty treat comes as a side dish to your chicken, steak, or ribs?

Lucille's Smokehouse BBQ

May 7, 2008 Link

OK, but not the best

Lucille’s is OK for a gotta have in right now BBQ craving, but it can’t compare to Johnny Reb’s or Chicago For Ribs. The food is mediocre at best, with most of it tasting like it was mass-prepared in the morning, and re-heated when ordered. Add to that, the fact that the wait time for a table is ridiculous – usually at least an hour.

What I ate:
  • *

    Dried out, definitely microwave re-heated.

  • **

High on grease, low on flavor.

  • ***

Nothing to write home about. Ribs at Johnny Reb’s are way better.

Goofy's Kitchen

May 7, 2008 Link

Fun for the whole family!

Goofy’s Kitchen has something for everyone. As an all-you-can-eat buffet, I went in with low expectations. I came out pleasantly surprised by the quality and selection of the offerings, and the attentive service, especially from a buffet restaurant. I’ve been for both breakfast and dinner, and they’re both teriffic. You get they standard buffet fare – salads, fruit, chicken fingers, etc. – but you also get expertly prepared seafood, pizzas, and absolutely sinful desserts. Plus, every so often, Goofy and the rest of the Disney gang put on a little show. If you’re celebrating a birthday, be sure to add the Birthday Celebration package (around $10) to your table. You’ll arrive at a table adorned with balloons and a goody bag full of fun treats for the special child (or adult!), as well as receiving a special birthday dessert brought right to your table.

Granville's Steak House

May 7, 2008 Link

Who says theme-park food has to be bad?

Just because it’s at the Disneyland Resort, don’t worry…..this is one of the better places to dine in Anaheim! Yes, you will be dining in the same dining room with tourist types and children, but the quality of the food and service is well worth it. The prices are a bit on the high side, as everything is served a la carte, but the portions are more than adequate. Of course, they do offer a prix fixe menu option for those that want to watch their budget a bit closer….a well-rounded meal, including a fantastic dessert, for a very reasonable price. A true fine-dining experience, complete with A+ service, in the heart of Walt’s original Magic Kingdom.

What I ate:
  • *****

Fantastic! Tender, juicy, seasoned and cooked just right.

  • ****

Absolutely delicious! Rich and creamy. More than enough to share.

  • *****

Wow! Bold, sweet, and down right yummy! The onions are so well carmelized, they just melt in your mouth. Topped with a delicious crouton and melted cheese, it’s an absolutely perfect way to start your meal.

New Peking Restaurant

May 12, 2007 Link

Doesn't look like much, but don't let that fool you!

I’ve been going to New Peking for years, and I’ve never had a bad experience. It’s a little hole in the wall place, but I think that’s why I like it. The staff is friendly and attentive, the prices are much lower than the big Chinese chain restaurants, and the food is every bit as good. Orange chicken and Mu Shu Pork are the best!

What I ate:
  • *****

Enough to share. Perfectly cooked, the sauce is sweet and tangy. My absolute favorite!

  • *****

Another winner! They put the ‘burritos’ together tableside. Yummy!

  • ****

Nice taste, lots of veggies. One of the better fried rices I’ve tasted.
