great fast food burgers and fried zucchini

Four stars for good food, easy access, easy parking, and easy ordering. Knockin’ off one star, ‘cause they can be at least a little friendly there.
The grill guys work hard there and they do it right. I had a big’ ol cheeseburger with grilled onions and it was also packed with fresh shredded lettuce and fresh tomatos (It was a hundred times better than that BS Pie n Burger in Pasadena the other week). I also had an order of fried zucchini with ranch dressing that was an enormous portion, but so good..I almost ate the whole order. It’s easily enough for two people. They have good drink choices too…horchata, tamarindo, orange bang, and five different sodas including Mr. Pibb.

Had a craving for a good cheeseburger, driving by Grand Burger my Covina friend mentions that place is pretty good, we stop, eat, and leave satisfied with a smile.

This place is hard core, but that's what I like...!

Four stars for good, tasty food. I’m no expert on Pakistani cuisine, other than having it at Al Noor. Like Al Noor, the cooks are latino. The items I ordered here were very good and enjoyable. I have tried the chicken karachi, spinach, rice, naan, chicken biryani.

This place is pretty hard core, no nonsense. The place did have a “B” on the window. The decor and ambience is pretty old and I can’t say it has the cleanest tables. But this place is all about the food. I’ve been here twice and had a great satisfying meal both times. I will be back to try other items on the menu, because it’s tasty, reasonably priced, easy, quick, and convenient.

I was really glad I decided to check this place out. I think their food is pretty damn good. I’m no expert as I’ve only had Pakistani at one other place, but I always have a smile when eating Karachi’s food. Very tasty, not too strong, not too oily, flavorful, and satisfying.

Good BBQ and service with a smile

Four stars for tasty BBQ, easy/convenient parking, friendly customer service, and a bright/clean interior space.
The people who run this place are very friendly and make you feel good about eating at their restaurant, unlike other BBQ places in the surrounding area.
My buddy ran into the owner of this place while ordering food at Pollos Asados Vick’s (has one review on Yelp) in Compton, because so many CPT Sheriff’s eat there. Anyway, the owner of Vick’s introduced my friend to the Bodacious Q owner, thus the connection was made. When he told me about it, I thought it was fairly close to work and went for lunch.
I was hungry. I wanted to order the full dinner for $12, but I thought I would look like a pig eating all that food at my desk back at the plant. So I just got the lunch special and opted for an additional small side. I know my office mates were jealous, because it smelled so good. The lunch special as shown on the menu comes with two pork ribs, a beef link, and a small side. Mine was potatoe salad which was good as opposed to the reviewer below. The additional side was baked beans which started out good, but lost it’s flavor as I went through it. I really liked the sauce on the ribs and link.
I’m glad I have another option for lunch around work now. As a matter of fact, I just may hit this up again this week.

Two ribs, one hot link, and one side doesn’t seem like too much, but it’s just about right without overeating as I tend to do too much. If I remember correctly, the second time I ate there and dined in, they gave me more than one link. There sauce is not too tart which I like…it’s nice and sweet and they serve good quality meats.

Good, fast, and tasty in a pinch.

Four stars for a great tasting fried shrimp po-boy, friendly customer service/cutey at the counter, cleanliness and easy parking/access.

Made an attempt for Bodacious Q for some bbq, but they were closed Monday. Looked across the parking lot and headed into Bayou Grille. I got the 6" shrimp po-boy for $6.99. I also got a side of potato salad which was kinda bland. Maybe it was just an off batch? My fried shrimp po-boy was pretty tasty. Though, I’ve never had a po-boy from the south. Maybe the bun could’ve been toasted a little more, but it still hit the spot. I think it was that seasoned fried batter they use on their shrimp….mmmmm, good.

I don’t know what a po-boy from the gulf area tastes like, but I like the way these taste here. I had the fried shrimp po-boy and it was good. The batter they use to fry their shrimp in made the sandwich.

I wish sushi was more affordable. Well, the way I eat...

4.5 stars for good nigiri sushi, interesting appetizers, courteous wait staff and sushi chefs, clean and relaxed environment. I’m leaving off a .5 star because the hostess was unwelcoming. They should have a friendlier person at the entrance of their restaurant.

Was treated to dinner here by a co-worker. I was a bit surprised, since I knew the bill would be fat. He has been there before many times, loves the place, and knew what interesting appetizers to order. A couple of these were a shrimp boat with quail egg and tempura battered shiitake mushrooms with real crab meat. The real crab meat really makes it happen!
I really enjoyed the hamachi, sake, smoked sake, uni, chutoro, and amaebi nigiri.

Anyway, between the three of us, the bill was $295. I thought it was going to be over $300. Two of us didn’t even drink alcohol to try and keep the bill down. My friend wouldn’t take the 100 spot I offered him. I felt like I had to do something. I imagine he just knew it was worth it to treat us to a really great dinner. That was way cool of him.

Hey Mike, when we going to Koi again??

Nice to have this place in the South Bay Area

4.5 stars for good food and good, friendly service. It’s not their fault, but I’m taking a half star for parking and ease of access. Artesia is very crowded and that little parking lot ain’t big enough for the number of businesses there.

I read their lamb was good so I ordered the lamb stew that comes with vegetables on a bed of rice with a big ol’ lamb shank on top. Then I asked the guy what else I should try. He said the lamb kabob. I said sounds good. I thought I was ordering two meals. When I got home, I was thoroughly amused at how large one of their meals are. It was easily four meals, and I personally kinda eat too much. Their lamb dishes are very tasty. I really had a good time eating their food. While I was waiting for my food to go, the guy brought me a piece of baklava. That was very nice of him to do and it tasted good too.

Also, while I was waiting, there was some idiot in there who ordered shawerma. Don’t get me wrong. He’s not an idiot because he ordered a shawerma. He’s an idiot, because after waiting about ten minutes started to complain angrily. He exclaims, “Where’s my order at? It’s been 20 minutes. (Dean thinks, "no a-hole, it’s only been about 10”) It’s only a damn shawerma. What’s the problem?!?" At this point, I looked around, seen the annoyed look on people’s faces, then decided to not intervene. The idiot did deserve to be checked though and I did give him a look to let him know. He just looked away, so I thought karma will follow.

Anyway, this small, friendly restaurant is all about business. It’s business is making good food at bargain prices. I say bargain, because one $9.99 lamb kabob or lamb stew plate is good for two meals easy. I hope they stick around for a long time.

One big ol’ moist flavorful lamb shank with a variety of vegetables on top of a bed of rice. This is a lot of food. It’s about two meals easy. It’s real good, though. Very fresh ingredients are used in their dishes. Good flavor and very tasty stuff.

all hype, no substance

One star for good fries, but that’s it. Parking situation there is difficult, too. Waitresses aloof to say the least. Walked in with a friend on an early Saturday afternoon…was not greeted at all, just looked at. Sat ourselves at two open seats at the counter with dirty dishes not yet bussed. For ten minutes, still not greeted nor was the counter in front of us bussed. They were not busy at all. Finally they bus the counter and a few minutes later take our order. I ordered a cheeseburger without onions and we split an order of fries. Cheeseburger comes to the table and the waitress says, “Hmmm, looks like there’s nothing in that burger?? (I pick it up) Oh, there is something in there.” WTF? No onions is what they got right, but there was no lettuce or tomato. There was just a huge load of dressing in it, cheese, and a small broken-in-half patty. Also, that burger is very, very small.

So, one turkey burger and soda for my friend, my cheeseburger, and a plate of fries and some thousand island dressing for the fries for a grand total of $20. C’mon, this place only lives on all the BS hipster hype.

For that early Saturday afternoon lunch, we saw disorder, laziness, and disorganization.

When my friend got home his wife exclaimed, “You ate there? That place sucks!” when she heard the name Pie and Burger.

Cheeseburger consisted of a bun, patty, cheese, a whole lot of mayo, and more mayo. They left out all the lettuce and tomato, because I said, “no onions, please.”

should I give them a second chance?

Went there for lunch today, 7/3. Lucky I’m not on a time constraint for lunch hour. One star for easy parking, clean establishment, and attracting a cute girl clientele.

I ordered bowtie pasta with pesto and chicken breast. My co-worker ordered a vegetarian Tuscan pizza bread (which looked pretty good behind the glass case). I was excited about this place after reading 8 good reviews and seeing the tasty looking dishes go by as other patrons picked up their food.

We waited and waited and waited to the point where we were looking at the time, and weren’t even in a hurry. I did notice while waiting to order that others were getting their orders mixed up. A couple of patrons even commented, “This place is kinda wierd…” referring to their service. Anyway, my number is called and it looks good. I eat my salad first. I try to pour the ranch dressing out of the container and it’s hard. I have to dig it out with my fork. WTH? This ain’t supposed to be hard like that. I move on to the bowtie pesto pasta with chicken breast. I take a bite of the chicken breast and my stomach gives me the gut feeling the chicken is old and to shy away from it. So I scrape up all the bits of chicken off of the pasta and start to eat just the pasta. The pasta was overcooked so it the texture was soft and mushy. The pesto sauce hardly had any taste. It was just really bland. I had high hopes for this place. (Nobody’s pesto can touch Caffe Sport in North Beach, San Francisco.) While I’m doing all this with my food, my co-worker’s number had not been called…still! Finally his number is called and he goes up to find they gave him pepperoni instead of veggie. Why would something like that take so long when they’re sitting in the case and just need to be thrown in the oven. When asked how it is, he replies “eh, it’s okay…looked better in the case…”

I really didn’t look like there was a manager or owner around anywhere…just a bunch of disorganized kids bumping into each other.

Is this an off day, because the owners and managers are headed out early for Fourth of July vacation?? Hope so…

The only redeeming credit to this place is that it attracts quite a few attractive female clientele.

Chicken tasted like it was over a day old and had been sitting out most of the day. I picked it all off, then just ate some of the pesto pasta. The pesto was lacking flavor. As a matter of fact, it didn’t have any taste at all.

tacos estilo Mexicali

lunaysolrestaurant.com

Based on reviews and close proximity, I decided to give this place a try.
Four stars for tasty tacos, cleanliness, and easy Del Wee shopping center parking.
The owner is not friendly or engaging, just very business-like. If that guy only knew how immersed I am in his culture and how familiar I am with the Calexico/Mexicali area….
Anyway, I ordered two tacos de lengua, un taco de machaca, y un taco de barbacoa con tortilla harina.
They were very good and tasty. I liked the thick tortillas maiz.
So besides the owner (I know he was the owner because of his picture on the wall), I will return for good food, easy access, and close proximity.

Went back on 7/25. Tacos needed a little more flavor. I had to add chile for flavor.

okay in a pinch; I like the single thick corn tortilla; also like their tacos with flour tortilla; they need to keep their salsa/chile a little cooler. When it starts bubbling up after you put it in the to go containers, that not a very good sign.

you'll never get tired of eating here...trust me

Five stars for the BBQ ribs and chicken, sauce, price, good service, easy parking/access, and no hype.
What? BBQ? Here? This place is in the Trading Post Liquor store. These guys can Q it up with the best of them and they take it seriously. Their sauce is xlnt. It’s not all tangy like Jay Bee’s (not that Jay Bee’s is the marker by which to compare, but people seem to rave about it too much). I just prefer a slightly sweeter tasting sauce. Good quality meats are used and they Q them just right. At lunch time, you will find a line of Toyota Motors and American Honda Motors employees trying to get their lunch on.

Now, I really like the BBQ at this place…it’s not even a restaurant. They just have an excellent BBQ sauce recipe, grill up some nice beef/pork ribs and chicken, and serve it up. I’m glad along with a lot of other faithful followers who enjoy this BBQ. I like this style sweet sauce. It sits perfectly in my mouth. My mouth is watering just writing this…
