Fino

Yummy Italian in Union Square/TenderNobb

I had an appetizer salad and the gnocchi at Fino, for takeout. They were so nice and considerate for my takeout meal. They were also very fast. The salad was great, and the gnocchi was ok. The sauce on the gnocchi was a bit watery, but it was good overall. I’ll be going there again soon.

This flatbread was actually better the next day. it had red onions, tomatoes and candied walnuts. it was pretty good, but i won’t be getting it again.

Vivo Restaurant

Dec 9, 2007 Link

Viva la Vivo

I’ve only been here once before, but it was over a year ago.

For drinks I got a bellini (which isn’t the best dinner drink, but is yummy nonetheless) and the red sin martini (i think that’s the name). it’s light with a tart taste (similar to a cosmo).

What I ate:
  • ***

Had I remembered that the calimari looks like it’s still swimming on your plate, I would’ve gotten bruschetta. The calimari is un-breaded, and comes with a light tomato sauce. It still tastes very good, but if you prefer your food unrecognizable from its original form, don’t order the calimari.

  • *****

For entre, I got the gnocchi. So good! It’s a pasta made of tiny potato dumplings in a creamy Parmesan sauce.

  • ***

Desert: creme brule Pretty good. I’d have it again.

Mother Effin' Martini

This wasn’t my first time going to suite lounge, but it was my first time going on a week night, and having the effin black cherry martini. wow.

Extremely strong! Took me an hour to finish drinking this one. If you like your martinis dirty, you’ll like the effin black cherry martini. It comes with an ice cube that has a black cherry in the center.

RJ Grunts

Jun 24, 2007 Link

My First Trip Back In Time at RJ Grunts

The main reason I give RJ Grunts such a high rating is because they have kick ass milkshakes. I had a chai tea milkshake, which was so incredibly yummy. To eat, I had the California Wrap, which is served warm, and could use a bit more sauce. I also got a side order of ma & cheese, which was pretty good. Just don’t let it get cold. I tried some chili as well, with everything on it (which includes onions, cheese, and cilantro among other things). Considering I hate beans, this chili was actually really good.

Ambiance was very retro, which I didn’t mind at all. It was genuine, not contrived. They just haven’t changed anything since like, 1971. From the green mirrors on the back wall to the music playing Donna Summers, and the illustrations on the menu, these folks took their prime era seriously.

Things to note: This place is known for its milkshakes. Get one. It’s also a very crowded, cozy place; not good for business meetings or folks that are claustrophobic. Most importantly: all sandwiches comes with the house chips. You’ll have to specify if you want regular fries. They won’t ask if you want chips or fries.

Nearby: RJ Grunts is across the street from Lincoln Park Zoo.

Yummy, but nothing spectacular. Could use a bit more sauce. Served warm.

I love peanut sauce, and the chicken in this dish is moist and tender. Ask for the peanut sauce on the side, though, cuz you’ll get 10x as much without being charged for extra sauce.

Spring Rolls - the non-crab rangoon

My follow-up review for this restaurant. Read my previous review for this restaurant here

While I still got my regular crab rangoons, my friend Tashara got the spring rolls this time. I ended up eating them all. This is the first time I’ve had cold spring rolls, which caught me off guard, especially with the sauce on top. Honestly, these tasted a lot like sushi wrapped in a tortilla roll instead of rice & seaweed. They were pretty yummy though.

Ma & I

May 4, 2007 Link

Justin took the picture, not me!

So we all know I’m addicted to crab rangoons. Of course I tried them at Ma & I. They were great, but not the best. I’d have them again. They didn’t taste cheap, though, there wasn’t much crab.

Crab Rangoons

I’m a crab rangoon fanatic, so when I had crab rangoons at Cozy and discovered they were the best ever, I was immediately hooked. I’ve never actually taken liquor to a BYOB spot before, but it’s fun at Cozy. Bring a bottle of wine and they’ll provide the ice bucket and the corkscrew. It’s great.

What I ate:

The best crab rangoons anywhere, ever!
