I love to travel, I love to eat, and I love to see other people appreciating good food. It doesn’t have to be a 3-star michelin to serve 5 star food. I’ll take a killer hot dog over massacred foie any day.

Recession special - worth every penny

For 2.50, you get 2 dogs the way you want them (I go for onions, and kraut, and mustard!) and then a fruity drink. It’s the best deal in town, and the best way to prevent a hangover.

Play with your food - and pay for it.

I came here for the tasting menu, and had a great time with it. I try to go for a tasting menu if I have the money, the time, and someone to talk about it with. This left plenty of conversation options, and lots of fun with food. The desserts were excellent, and the lamb belly, eggs benedict, french onion soup, and squid with butternut squash were my favorites for the savory dishes.

Dishes I tried:

Eggs benedict

All the best parts of eggs benedict, in one place, without anything bad to speak of. Crispy Canadian bacon, soft gooey yolk cylinders, and little cubes of hollandaise sauce breaded with English muffin crumbs. Definitely worth the price of admission.

Knot foie

Very inventive, a knot of a terrine of foie gras, with kim chee puree, sultana puree, and cilantro stalks. An unusual flavor mix, but not really showcasing the taste of foie like one might hope.

Solid food, in a fun spot to stop

I’ve been here several times, and have yet to be disappointed. The service is solid, the food is consistent, though I suppose there are many ways it could be better, but it’s a perfect place to stop if you’ve been shopping far too long in a day already. Their fettucine alfredo really is the best alfredo I’ve had, and some of their salads are also excellent.

Eating for 2? You've found a home

I’m a huge fan of Original Joe’s. It feels like one of the Sopranos might be sitting in the booth next to you, and they have some of the nicest, quirkiest servers around. Very friendly, and charming, I’ve never had a bad meal here. I love their hours, as they’re open until very late, and you’ll be guaranteed to walk home with left overs, unless you eat competitively. They have fantastic ravioli, made with veal, not just a bad ricotta mix, and good red sauce. I’m a big fan of their eggplant parmigiana, which is crisp, and melty and gooey, a tough combination to come by. They make a pretty good clam linguine too, though, it’s a touch creamy for my taste. It’s really more of a 4.5 star review, as some of their dishes don’t rock my world, and you can end up waiting for a while to get a seat, but that’s a sign of good food and good value, not bad service.

A place for special occasions.

It’s a great date place, but remember, that’s a lot of food they give you! It’s also great for just the dessert, but note, this can be a meal in and of itself. The best parts of the meal are the cheese fondue, and the meat options. Either go for the grill, or the classic court bullion.

Greasy Spoon Vietnamese in the Tenderloin

If you’re on a budget, and need a lot of food fast, this is a great place to go. Try the fried rice, or just about anything. I ordered something intentionally that I I wouldn’t normally get, and it was still very tasty. Don’t expect frills, or service, or cleanliness, but for take-out, this place rocks!

Solid Chinese Halal

Chinese Halal may seem odd to some, but the idea is growing on me as I eat more dishes at Ma’s. I recommend the beef chow fun with black bean sauce. Also, if you want something gigantic and inexpensive, the green onion pancake with sesame is HUGE! I can’t say the ambiance is stellar, but the food is a good deal, and flavorful. Don’t ask for pork, whatever you do.

Good price for good quality. It’s very flavorful, has good texture, and was just what I was looking for.
